1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsdatareport.dll is a third-party application DLL most strongly associated with Baidu PC Faster and PC App Store components, not a normal Windows file. The safest fix is to identify the program requesting it, verify the DLL’s location and signature, then repair or reinstall that parent application instead of downloading a replacement into a Windows system folder.
What this file actually does
Public file records associate datareport.dll with descriptions such as “PC Faster Data Report” and “PC App Store Data Report.” Its exact internal functions are not publicly documented, but the name and product relationship suggest that it belongs to a reporting component inside the application that installed it.

The filename is not completely unique. Other public metadata associates datareport.dll with Tencent QT Voice and 64-bit files. That means the filename alone cannot identify the correct software. The requesting program, containing folder, digital signature, architecture, and file hash matter.
A legitimate copy should normally sit beside the executable files of its parent application. It should not be treated as a shared Windows component in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Causes of the error by symptom
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Error appears immediately after signing in | An old startup shortcut, service, or scheduled task still launches a removed app | Identify and remove the confirmed orphaned entry |
| Error began after uninstalling PC Faster or PC App Store | Uninstaller left a startup reference behind | Uninstall remaining components and inspect startup items |
| Antivirus recently detected or quarantined the file | The application DLL was removed, or malware used the same filename | Check Protection history before restoring anything |
| The application fails after an update | Incomplete update or mixed DLL versions | Use Repair, then reinstall the complete application |
| The DLL is in a temporary or unrelated folder | Impersonating or misplaced copy | Scan it and do not restore it blindly |
| A 64-bit program requests a Baidu-associated 32-bit DLL | Wrong architecture or unrelated same-name file | Reinstall the application that actually requested it |
| SFC reports no problems | The missing file is third-party, not a protected Windows component | Repair the parent application instead |
| The message names another DLL too | datareport.dll may not be the only dependency problem |

Fix 1: Identify the application that needs datareport.dll
Start with the error itself. The dialog title, executable name, or surrounding message often reveals which program is failing.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Write down the complete error message.
- Note the dialog title.
- Look for an application name or executable ending in
.exe. - Check whether the error appears only when launching one program or every time Windows starts.
- If the message appears at login, temporarily open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for an entry related to Baidu, PC Faster, PC App Store, or an unknown item.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and choose Open file location if available.
Disabling a startup item prevents it from launching while you investigate, but it does not repair the application. Do not delete an entry until you have confirmed what executable it starts.
Next, search for every copy of the DLL:
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Enter
datareport.dllin the search box. - For each result, right-click the file and choose Open file location.
- Record the full folder path.
- Right-click the file, choose Properties, and inspect Details and Digital Signatures.
- If available, use PowerShell to calculate a hash:
Get-FileHash "C:fullpathdatareport.dll" -Algorithm SHA256
Replace the path with the actual location.
A Baidu-associated file in a Baidu application directory with a valid signature from “Baidu Online Network Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.” is more consistent with a genuine application component. A copy in System32, SysWOW64, a temporary directory, or an unrelated game folder needs additional investigation.
A valid signature supports the file’s publisher provenance, but it does not prove that you still want the application installed. An obsolete or unwanted signed program can still be removed.
Fix 2: Repair the identified application
Repair is the least disruptive option when the parent application is still installed.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Find the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and launch the program again.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Apps & features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options if shown.
- Select Repair.
Traditional desktop programs may not offer that Settings option. In that case:
- Press
Windows+R. - Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair, Change, or a similarly named maintenance option.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
A successful repair restores the application’s own files and dependencies as a set. The error should disappear when the same executable is launched again.
If Repair is unavailable or fails, uninstall the identified application from Installed apps or Programs and Features, restart Windows, and reinstall it only from a trustworthy official installer supplied by that application’s developer. No current official Baidu installer for the legacy Windows PC Faster or PC App Store product has been verified here. If the application is obsolete and no trustworthy official installer is available, uninstall it rather than sourcing an isolated DLL.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have quarantined a legitimate-looking application file, or malware may have used the same filename.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review detections around the time the error began.
- Select the relevant detection to view its path and classification.
- Compare that path with the application directory you identified earlier.
Do not choose Restore or Allow on device solely because the filename matches. Restore a file only when the path, publisher, signature, hash, and parent application all make sense. Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can expose the device.
If the file was in a temporary, system, or unrelated folder, leave it quarantined and run a full scan. For a suspicious or repeatedly recreated copy, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from Virus & threat protection → Scan options. Reinstall the parent application from a known-good official source after the scan completes.
Fix 4: Reinstall the complete parent program
A missing DLL often indicates that the application installation is incomplete, not that one file needs to be copied manually.
Before reinstalling:
- Save application settings or game saves if the program stores them locally.
- Close the affected application.
- Uninstall it from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Check whether its old installation folder remains.
- Remove only the confirmed leftover folder for that uninstalled application.
- Download the installer from the developer’s official source.
- Install the correct release.
- Launch the program normally.
Do not use a random DLL website to fill the gap. A downloaded file may contain malware, belong to a different product sharing the same filename, use the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture, or fail because another dependency is missing. It can also conceal the real problem: a broken updater, orphaned startup task, or damaged application installation.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchDo not copy datareport.dll into System32 or SysWOW64. The application loader normally searches its own installation directory and other defined locations. A private application DLL is not made correct by placing it in a global Windows folder.
Fix 5: Check architecture and the full dependency error
The strongest Baidu-related records are generally 32-bit. A 32-bit DLL cannot satisfy an unrelated 64-bit program, and a 64-bit DLL cannot satisfy a 32-bit program. Windows may run a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows, so the important match is between the DLL and the application requesting it.
Check the program’s installation folder and erroring executable rather than choosing a DLL based on the newest-looking version. Reinstalling the parent application is the safest way to restore the correct architecture and companion files.
Also read the entire error. If it names VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or another Microsoft runtime, that is a separate dependency problem. datareport.dll is not itself a Visual C++ Redistributable file. Install or repair the Microsoft Visual C++ package only when the error or the application’s official requirements identify that runtime, using the package architecture required by the application.

DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They normally will not recreate a missing Baidu or other third-party application DLL, but they are useful when several Windows features are failing or system corruption began at the same time.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft documents running DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the component store that SFC uses. If both commands complete successfully but the same application still reports datareport.dll as missing, return to the parent application repair or reinstall. A clean SFC result does not disprove a damaged third-party installation.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed is rarely useful. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows issues and show what it finds, while its full version performs the repair; it is optional, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that program owns the DLL.
Install pending Windows updates through Settings → Windows Update, particularly if other Windows components are malfunctioning. If the problem began immediately after an application, driver, or system change, press Windows + R, enter rstrui.exe, and review available restore points. Select one only after checking which programs will be affected.
Fix 7: Investigate startup tasks and services
If the error appears before you open any program, the original application may already be gone while its launcher remains.
Check these locations:
- Task Manager → Startup apps
- Task Scheduler: search the Task Scheduler Library for the old application name
- Services: press
Windows+R, enterservices.msc, and look for a clearly matching service - Startup folders: press
Windows+R, entershell:startup, then inspect shortcuts
For a scheduled task, open its Actions tab and identify the executable it launches. Disable or remove only a task confirmed to belong to the uninstalled application. Do not delete an unknown Windows task merely because its name looks unfamiliar.
If the task points to an existing application, repair or uninstall that application normally. If it points to a missing executable and the parent program is confirmed gone, remove the orphaned task or shortcut, restart Windows, and check whether the dialog has stopped.

Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose the COM registration entry point DllRegisterServer. A normal private runtime DLL is loaded by its application and does not need registration.
Running this command is therefore not a general fix:
regsvr32 datareport.dll
It commonly produces an error stating that the module was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. Register a DLL only when the application’s official instructions specifically identify it as a COM or ActiveX component and provide the correct registration procedure.
Driver checks are usually unrelated
datareport.dll is an application component, not a graphics, audio, chipset, or input driver. Device Manager will not normally restore it.
Check drivers only if the same failure began with broader hardware symptoms:
- Right-click Start.
- Choose Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers, or install a package obtained from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows.
Do not uninstall a working device merely because datareport.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention, while its full version performs the driver installation; it is optional, and it will not replace a missing application DLL.
FAQ
Is datareport.dll a Windows file?
No. The strongest public attribution connects it with Baidu PC Faster and PC App Store components. It is not normally supplied by Windows in System32 or SysWOW64.
Which program installed datareport.dll?
Most evidence points to Baidu PC Faster or PC App Store, but the filename is not exclusive. Other public records associate it with Tencent QT Voice. Use the requesting executable, file path, signature, and hash to identify the actual parent.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Should I download datareport.dll?
No. Random DLL downloads can provide malware, the wrong product’s file, or the wrong architecture. Repair or reinstall the application that requested it from the developer’s official source.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. A private application DLL belongs with its parent program. Copying it into a Windows system folder can create version conflicts and does not repair the application installation.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
Not by itself. datareport.dll is not a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime DLL. Install a Visual C++ package only when the error also names a Microsoft runtime or the application specifically requires it.
What if the error remains after reinstalling?
Check whether another copy of the program, a scheduled task, service, or startup shortcut is requesting the file. Then inspect Event Viewer and the exact executable named by the error. If the copy is suspicious, leave it quarantined and run Microsoft Defender Offline.
