In its retrospective published on 20 February 2026, Bohemia Interactive said DayZ had more than 650,000 daily active players across all platforms during 2025. The company described 2025 as a record-breaking year. The figure establishes the scale of activity the publisher reported; it does not specify an annual average, a particular day’s peak, or a platform-by-platform breakdown. “Daily active players” and “concurrent players” answer different questions. Daily active counts activity over a day; concurrent counts people playing at the same time. The 650,000-plus figure is cross-platform daily activity, not a Steam live-player count.
How it compares with DayZ’s 2024 milestone
Bohemia previously reported 500,000 daily players across all platforms on 20 October 2024. Its 25 October announcement broke that day’s figure down as follows:

The three platform figures add up to the reported cross-platform total. This is a useful earlier comparison, but it is a single-day milestone from 2024—not a 2024 annual average to set against all of 2025. See Bohemia’s 2024 announcement.
Why Steam’s peak is a different number
SteamDB lists DayZ’s all-time Steam concurrent peak as 78,937 players, reached on 20 October 2024. That is a simultaneous-player peak on Steam, tracked by a third party. It should not be compared directly with Bohemia’s 500,000 cross-platform daily-player figure—or its 650,000-plus 2025 figure—as though the metrics were interchangeable. SteamDB’s DayZ charts show Steam-specific concurrency, not activity across every platform.

What else Bohemia reported about 2025
The retrospective provides additional context for the game’s reach and community activity, although these figures do not explain what caused the player record:
- More than 300,000 new players on day one through PS Plus. This is a day-one figure reported by Bohemia for 2025.
- 38,000 new community mods. Bohemia reported this number for 2025.
- 41 livestreams. The company said this was 2.5 times its level in previous years.
Bohemia also identified development of DayZ Badlands, a desert expansion set in Nasdara province, as the year’s biggest news. In the retrospective, the company said Badlands was planned for release in 2026 across platforms; that was a plan at the time of publication, not confirmation that it has since launched.

Did Frostline cause the rise?
The evidence links Frostline to the 2024 milestone, not to the full-year 2025 record. Bohemia said DayZ’s record-breaking day on 20 October 2024 coincided with the release of Frostline, and reported that the separately purchasable expansion sold more than 300,000 copies in its first week. That timing supports a connection to the 2024 spike, but it does not establish that Frostline caused the entire increase—or that it caused the 2025 record.
