The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the affected Adobe Audition installation rather than downloading dbl.dll or copying it into a Windows folder.
What this file actually does
dbl.dll is identified as the Adobe Audition Language Module and is associated with the Adobe Audition German Language Module. Adobe Audition has supported German-language versions, but current Adobe documentation does not confirm that every current Creative Cloud release still includes this filename.

A public file index reports a 32-bit Win32 file with version 1.5.4124.1 and a size of 2,560 bytes. Treat those as catalog metadata, not as a current Adobe specification. They also do not prove that the file belongs beside every Audition installation.

This is an application DLL. It is not:
- A Windows
System32orSysWOW64component - A Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file
- A general-purpose DLL that should be shared between applications
- A file that normally needs registration with
regsvr32
The most important clue is the application named in the error. If the dialog names Adobe Audition, repair Audition. If it names another program, do not assume that program can use an Audition language module.

Before changing anything, write down:
- The exact application named in the dialog.
- The complete error text.
- Whether it says
dbl.dll,audition.dll,MSVCP110.dll,MSVCR110.dll, or another filename. - Whether the failure started after an Adobe update, uninstall, language change, disk cleanup, antivirus action, or migration from another PC.
- The Audition installation path shown in Creative Cloud or the shortcut properties.
Fix 1: Update and reinstall Adobe Audition
This is the primary repair because dbl.dll belongs to an Adobe Audition language component.
Try the update first
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps.
- Find Audition under Installed or All apps.
- Select Update if it is available.
- Wait for the update to complete.
- Restart Windows.
- Start Audition from Creative Cloud rather than from the old desktop shortcut.
If Audition starts successfully from Creative Cloud, the old shortcut may point to a removed version. Right-click the shortcut, select Properties, inspect the Target path, and compare it with the installation shown in Creative Cloud. Delete the stale shortcut and create a new one from the current installation.
Reinstall Audition
If updating does not restore the file:
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps.
- Find Audition.
- Select the three-dot menu beside Audition.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts. Keep preferences only if you specifically need them; damaged preferences can preserve startup problems.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Select Install beside Audition.
- If language choices are offered, select the language required by the affected installation.
- Start Audition before reinstalling third-party plug-ins.
A clean reinstall should restore the files belonging to the installed Audition release. If it does not, check whether the failing shortcut is still launching an older copy from another drive.
If the Audition release is old
A current Creative Cloud installer may not supply an older perpetual or localized Audition release that originally used dbl.dll. In that case, use the original licensed Adobe installer or Adobe’s legitimate archived-download process for that product.
Do not combine dbl.dll from an old installation with executable files from a newer Audition release. A file can have the right name and still be the wrong version or architecture.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application file. Quarantine alone does not prove that the file was harmless, so do not disable protection just to force a DLL back into the program folder.
Windows Security steps
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections around the time Audition stopped starting.
- Expand an entry that refers to
dbl.dllor the Audition installation folder. - Confirm that the affected path belongs to a trusted Adobe Audition installation.
- If you are certain the installation is legitimate and the detection is an incorrect quarantine, use Restore or Allow on device only when Windows Security offers that choice.
- Reinstall or repair Audition afterward.
- Run a scan and test Audition.
If the detection identifies malware rather than an ordinary application file, leave it quarantined and reinstall Audition from Adobe. Do not restore an unknown copy downloaded from another source.

Fix 3: Confirm the file is absent, not merely inaccessible
A missing-file message can result from an incorrect path, permissions problem, or stale shortcut.
- Right-click the Audition shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, copy the path shown in Target.
- Open File Explorer and browse to the application folder.
- Check whether
dbl.dllexists there or in a language subfolder. - If the file exists, right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the General tab for an Unblock option and use it only if the file came from a trusted Adobe installer.
- Open the Security tab and confirm that your Windows account can read and execute files in the folder.
- Do not grant broad permissions to
Everyoneand do not move the file toSystem32.
If the file exists but Audition still reports it as missing, the executable may be loading a different installation path. Start Audition from Creative Cloud and inspect the shortcut again.
A new Windows profile can also separate profile corruption from an application problem:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts, then Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create a local test user.
- Sign in to that account.
- Launch Audition or Creative Cloud.
If Audition works in the new profile, reset Audition preferences and inspect the original profile’s permissions or application-data folders.

Fix 4: Match the application architecture
The reported dbl.dll metadata describes a 32-bit Win32 file. That does not establish that every Audition installation using the name has the same architecture.
A 32-bit DLL must be used by a compatible 32-bit application. Placing it beside an unrelated 64-bit executable does not convert it into a valid dependency.
Check the application rather than guessing:
- Open Creative Cloud and inspect the Audition installation details.
- Check the shortcut’s Target path.
- Do not copy files between
Program FilesandProgram Files (x86)unless the official installer places them there. - Reinstall the exact Audition version that owns the installation.
If the error instead names MSVCP110.dll or MSVCR110.dll, that is a separate Visual C++ issue. Microsoft states that the redistributable architecture must match the application, so a 32-bit application commonly needs the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows.

Use the official Microsoft packages:
- Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable x86
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable x64
Older runtimes remain side by side with newer releases. Installing the latest package does not guarantee that it replaces every older dependency.
Fix 5: Repair Creative Cloud itself
If Creative Cloud cannot update, uninstall, or reinstall Audition correctly, the desktop application may be damaged.
- Close Audition and other Adobe applications.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Sign out and sign back in if the Apps page is not loading correctly.
- If Creative Cloud still fails, remove and reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop application using Adobe’s official installer.
- Install Audition again.
- Test Audition before restoring plug-ins or custom settings.
If the problem affects several Adobe applications, repair Creative Cloud before repeatedly reinstalling individual applications.
Fix 6: Check plug-ins and graphics drivers
A third-party plug-in can prevent Audition from starting, even when the dialog initially suggests a missing application file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Temporarily remove or disable recently installed Audition plug-ins.
- Start Audition.
- If it opens, re-enable plug-ins one at a time.
- Remove the plug-in that reproduces the crash.
- Reset Audition preferences if the application offers that option.
If Event Viewer names a graphics module rather than dbl.dll, update the display driver through the computer manufacturer, graphics-card manufacturer, or Windows Update.
For a manual driver check:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Audition.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through multiple hardware pages by scanning for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling Adobe Audition remains the definitive fix when the error truly belongs to dbl.dll.
Fix 7: Use DISM and SFC only for broader Windows damage
dbl.dll is an application file, so System File Checker is not the primary repair. Use Windows integrity tools when several applications are failing, Windows components are damaged, or the system shows other corruption symptoms.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Audition again.
Microsoft documents this order in System File Checker repair instructions.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process less repetitive by scanning for reported Windows issues and showing what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair is handled by the full version. It does not replace reinstalling Adobe Audition when the missing file belongs to that application.
If DISM and SFC report repairs but Audition still names dbl.dll, return to the Adobe installation rather than repeating the commands.
Fix 8: Consider System Restore only after identifying the change
System Restore can help when a restore point predates the failure and application repair is unavailable, but it is not a substitute for reinstalling Audition.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the failure.
- Review affected applications.
- Start the restore.
- Restart Windows and test Audition.
Do not use System Restore as the first response to a simple missing application file. It can change unrelated drivers and applications without restoring the correct Audition language component.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It does not download, repair, replace, or restore a missing application dependency.
Do not run:
regsvr32 dbl.dll
unless Adobe specifically instructs you to register that exact file. If the command reports that the entry point is missing, that can be normal for an ordinary application or resource DLL.
Microsoft’s description of the command is available in the regsvr32 documentation.
Do not download dbl.dll manually
Avoid random DLL download sites sites and copies from another computer. The file may contain malware, belong to a different Audition release, use the wrong architecture, or fail because other Adobe files are also missing.

FAQ
Is dbl.dll part of Windows?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with Adobe Audition’s German-language module.
Does current Creative Cloud Audition still use dbl.dll?
That is not confirmed by current public Adobe documentation. The filename is clearly associated with an older or localized Audition component, so identify the installed release before replacing anything.
Can I download the file by itself?
That is unsafe and usually does not repair the underlying installation. Reinstall the Adobe Audition version that owns the file.
Should I install Visual C++ to fix dbl.dll?
Not for dbl.dll itself. Install Visual C++ only when the error names a runtime such as MSVCP110.dll or MSVCR110.dll.
Is the 32-bit file compatible with 64-bit Windows?
A 32-bit DLL can be used by a compatible 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows, but it cannot satisfy an unrelated 64-bit program. Let the Adobe installer place the correct files.
Why does Audition launch from Creative Cloud but not its shortcut?
The shortcut probably points to an older, removed, or different installation. Compare its target path with the current Audition installation and create a new shortcut.
What if reinstalling Audition does not help?
Confirm the exact filename again, inspect Event Viewer under Windows Logs → Application, disable third-party plug-ins, check antivirus quarantine, and verify that the shortcut is not launching an obsolete copy. If the release is no longer supplied, contact Adobe Support with the original license and installer details.
