Pinhead was the new Killer in Dead by Daylight’s 2021 Hellraiser chapter. Springtrap joined the game later, in a separate Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter in 2025. The two characters were rumor candidates discussed in an August 2021 report—not confirmed as a pair or as an official Chapter 2 lineup.
What did the 2021 Dead by Daylight rumor say?
A TechTimes report published August 13, 2021, discussed Springtrap and Pinhead as possible new Killers. It described social posts and community interpretations of teaser material, including an analysis of teaser audio, but said there had been no official announcement confirming either character at that time. The headline’s “Chapter 2” wording can also be misleading. The story concerned speculation around Chapter 21 in 2021; “Chapter 2” is not the name of that chapter. It is distinct from the later, separately named Stranger Things Chapter 2 listing.
Was Pinhead the new DBD Killer in 2021?
Yes. Pinhead was the Killer in the Dead by Daylight: Hellraiser chapter, released September 7, 2021, according to Nintendo UK’s listing. The listing also says the add-on unlocks a Lament Configuration charm.

Did Springtrap get added to Dead by Daylight?
Yes, but not as part of the 2021 Hellraiser chapter. Springtrap arrived in the separate Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter in 2025. Behaviour’s feature announcing the character is dated May 27, 2025; Steam lists the add-on’s release date as June 17, 2025. Behaviour’s chapter feature and Steam’s add-on listing identify the later release.
Behaviour calls Springtrap “The Animatronic.” Its character page describes his Fazbear’s Fright power, along with Security Doors and a shared camera system, and labels his difficulty Hard. Storefront availability and price may differ by platform and region.

The 2021 speculation put two plausible horror crossovers in the same conversation, but their actual releases were separated by years and by chapter. Xbox Wire’s 2025 feature quotes Associate Art Director Chase Toole describing the appeal of contrasting a children’s pizzeria with the franchise’s gruesome imagery and backstory: “It’s such a fun idea to have juxtaposing ideas in horror.” That comment concerns the later FNAF chapter’s art direction, not the credibility of the earlier rumor.
