Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Brings Back a Cut Weapon—But Not a Confirmed Beam Gun

Capcom confirmed the remaster restores the rocket launcher. A cut beam gun’s return is unconfirmed, and the original game’s plastic laser sword is a separate description.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster restores a weapon that was cut from the original game: the rocket launcher. Capcom’s launch announcement does not confirm that a cut beam gun returned. The “beam gun” wording may be getting mixed up with a different laser-like weapon mentioned in coverage of the original: a children’s plastic laser sword.

Did the remaster bring back the cut beam gun?

That has not been confirmed by the official material reviewed here. Capcom’s launch overview names the rocket launcher as a weapon restored for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster; it does not identify a beam gun as a returning weapon. The beam gun’s development history and remaster status therefore remain unresolved.

There is a possible source of confusion: PlayStation Blog says the original game let players use a “kids’ plastic laser sword” against zombies. That description is not evidence that the sword and a cut beam gun are the same item, or that either was restored as a beam gun in the remaster. PlayStation Blog’s feature overview describes the sword in the context of the original game.

Which cut weapon did Capcom restore?

The confirmed weapon is the rocket launcher. In Capcom’s Xbox Wire overview, the paragraph about the launcher is followed by Capcom Social Media Specialist David Poole’s statement: “A weapon that never made it into the original Dead Rising has now been restored, making its official debut in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.” In context, that weapon is the rocket launcher—not a beam gun.
