Choose Death Dealer if your group wants a short, digital horror match that turns a card-and-chip contest into an action hunt. Choose a traditional social-deduction game instead if the main attraction is reading hidden loyalties through discussion, voting and role powers. Death Dealer is listed as an online PC party game for up to six players, not as a conventional hidden-role deduction game.
That distinction determines the right choice more than the horror theme. Death Dealer gives one player a hunted role after a preliminary game, while the alternatives below focus on missions, accusations, secret teams or character abilities. Steam showed a playable demo and a planned November 4, 2026 release when checked on October 13, 2026; verify the current listing before arranging a session.

What Death Dealer actually is
Death Dealer is a multiplayer horror party video game from Psychotronic. The Steam listing tags it as online co-op, multiplayer, horror, party-game, card-game and PvP, with support for up to six players. Its format is fundamentally different from a boxed game such as The Resistance or a moderator-led game of Werewolf: everyone is in a digital environment, and the central conflict eventually becomes a real-time chase through a bunker.
The official description does not present Death Dealer as a standard hidden-role deduction game. Players are not simply trying to identify a secret traitor from statements around a table. Instead, the match combines a competitive card game, in-game chips, a slot-machine phase, weapon purchases and a hide-and-seek hunt. Betrayal and deception can still matter, but the documented structure is an action party game with a changing predator-and-prey relationship.

The documented match loop
- Play the opening card game. Players compete to earn chips. The listing does not specify every card rule, so treat the card phase as the contest that determines who is vulnerable rather than assume a particular poker variant or deck.
- Use the slot machine. The chip economy feeds a slot-machine mechanic that adds modifiers or uncertainty before the hunt. These are fictional, in-game effects.
- Identify the loser. The player who loses the opening contest becomes the hunted player for the next phase.
- Buy weapons. The other players spend their resources preparing to pursue the hunted player.
- Hunt through the bunker. The round shifts into a horror chase in which one person tries to survive or evade and the others search for them. The Steam page does not fully specify what happens after this hunt, so do not promise a particular elimination or scoring rule beyond the loser becoming hunted.
This sequence is why Death Dealer can feel social without being a conventional social-deduction title. Players may bluff about plans, cooperate temporarily or exploit one another, but the decisive interaction is movement, pursuit and weapon use rather than a vote that removes a suspected role.
What the game is not
- It is not documented as a tabletop game that works without a computer.
- It is not described as a classic Mafia-style day-and-night discussion cycle.
- It does not advertise real-money gambling. The listing says, “No real money involved,” and identifies the product as a video game rather than a real casino.
- It does not name a separate moderator or facilitator. The available description assumes the software runs the match.
Release status, platform and PC requirements
At the October 13, 2026 check, the full game was not yet available on Steam. The store page offered a demo and listed a planned November 4, 2026 release, with Early Access planned. A planned date is not a guarantee; check the live Death Dealer Steam listing immediately before publication or before your group buys or schedules the game.
The developer and publisher shown on Steam are both Psychotronic. The current minimum operating-system requirement is Windows 10 64-bit or newer. Steam recommends a GTX 1060 with 6 GB of video memory or an RX 580 with 4 GB. Store requirements can change during development, so compare the live specification with the PC that will host or run the game.
Early Access expectations
The Early Access disclosure says the team expects approximately 18 months in Early Access, while explicitly warning that the period may change. Planned additions include more level content, weapons, character cosmetics and gameplay variations, alongside balance and polish work. These are development intentions, not a promised release schedule or a guarantee that every listed feature will arrive.
The developers describe the current build this way: “The core loop is already playable, and we want to refine and improve the experience based on real player feedback.” They also write, “We are a two person team building Death Dealer, and Early Access lets us shape the game with players from the start.” Those statements make the game a better fit for players comfortable with changing systems than for a group seeking a finished, fixed ruleset.
Steam community updates include an October 7 demo announcement and descriptions of the card-to-hunt loop. You can monitor those updates at the Death Dealer Steam Community hub.

Death Dealer compared with the main alternatives
The table below separates the characteristics that most affect a group decision: format, headcount, facilitation and what happens to a player who loses or is killed. The figures for the tabletop games come from the comparison guide updated September 26, 2026; Blood on the Clocktower’s player range comes from its publisher.

| Game | Format and group size | Moderator | Elimination or death | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Death Dealer | Online PC horror party game; up to 6 players | No separate moderator is described | The opening-game loser becomes hunted; later elimination rules are not fully specified in the listing | Friends who want digital action, a bunker hunt and a changing predator/prey round |
| The Resistance / Avalon | Boxed tabletop game; guide gives 5–10 players | None | Players remain in the game according to the guide | Groups wanting mission-based social deduction without a facilitator or player knockout |
| Werewolf / Mafia | Traditional party game; usually 8 or more | Moderator who does not play | Players are voted out | Large groups that enjoy narration, accusations and possible early downtime |
| Blood on the Clocktower | In-person social game; 5–20 players plus one Storyteller | Storyteller | Dead players remain involved, with limits | Experienced groups wanting individual roles, extensive information and a facilitator |
| Two Rooms and a Boom | Cards and two rooms; 6–30 players | None | No elimination, according to the guide | Very large groups with two spaces and a timed exchange structure |
| Coup | Bluffing tabletop game; 2–6 players; about 15 minutes according to the guide | None | Elimination | Small groups seeking a fast, bluff-heavy physical game and accepting that players can be knocked out |
The guide’s duration descriptions range from roughly ten minutes for some one-night games to up to two hours for Blood on the Clocktower. Those ranges should not be applied to Death Dealer: its cited Steam listing does not provide a match-duration figure.
How the alternatives play differently
The Resistance and Avalon: deduction without a moderator
The Resistance and its Avalon setting are the closest answer when your group wants social deduction but does not want anyone to sit outside the game and run it. The guide places the player range at five to ten and says there is no moderator and no player elimination. Players propose teams for missions, vote on whether those teams should proceed and interpret the results to locate the hidden opposition.
This makes the game discussion-first. The tension comes from who is trusted with a mission and whether a mission succeeds or fails, not from controlling a digital avatar or purchasing weapons. It is a strong choice for a mixed-experience group because the rules can be explained at the table and nobody loses their turn after an early accusation. It is a poor substitute if your group specifically wants horror atmosphere, real-time pursuit or a computer-managed bunker.
Werewolf or Mafia: the classic moderator-led format
Werewolf and Mafia are usually recommended for eight or more players. A moderator runs the night-and-day sequence, announces events and keeps hidden roles secret while not participating as a player. During discussion, the group votes players out; those eliminated players may have to watch rather than influence later decisions, depending on the house rules.
Choose this format when the pleasure is performance: persuasive claims, alliances, dramatic reveals and a narrator who can pace the room. It works especially well when you have a large group and someone who enjoys facilitating. It is less suitable for a six-person gathering that wants everyone active throughout, or for players who dislike being eliminated early. Death Dealer avoids the need for a human moderator by putting the match inside software, but replaces extended discussion with action and pursuit.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Blood on the Clocktower: a facilitated, high-information game
Blood on the Clocktower’s official product page lists five to twenty players plus one Storyteller. The Storyteller is an active facilitator who prepares the scenario, manages information and helps the game continue when players die. The comparison guide emphasizes that dead players remain involved, subject to the game’s limits, so elimination does not automatically mean leaving the conversation.
This is the choice for groups that want individual roles, layered abilities and a structured facilitator-led experience. It also demands more preparation than a quick party game: someone must learn the Storyteller role, organize the session and keep information consistent. Sessions can run considerably longer than a short party round; the comparison guide gives up to two hours for the game. Nothing in that duration range should be treated as a Death Dealer estimate.

Two Rooms and a Boom uses cards, two physical rooms and a timer. The guide gives a range of six to thirty players, no moderator and no elimination. Splitting the group creates information asymmetry: players negotiate, exchange information and decide whom to send between rooms before time expires.
It is a better fit than Death Dealer when your group has more than six people and access to two spaces. It is also better for a party where nobody should be knocked out. Death Dealer is easier to organize if everyone is already online, but it cannot accommodate the very large groups that make Two Rooms and a Boom distinctive.
Coup: a compact bluffing option
Coup is useful when the group is small and wants a physical game that finishes quickly. The comparison guide describes it as a two-to-six-player game of about fifteen minutes with elimination. Its focus is bluffing and challenge decisions rather than a moderator, a horror setting or a pursuit sequence.

Pick Coup over Death Dealer when you want cards on a table, minimal setup and a short session. Do not pick it as a direct replacement if your group’s priority is cooperative online play or a bunker hunt; it solves a different problem.
Which game fits your group?
Choose Death Dealer when…
- You have no more than six players and everyone can play on a compatible Windows PC.
- Your group wants online play, horror atmosphere and direct control during a hunt rather than a conversation-only game.
- You like a match that changes phase: competition for chips first, then a hunted player and armed pursuers.
- You are willing to play an Early Access title whose balance, weapons, levels and gameplay variations may change.
- No one wants to volunteer as a moderator.
Choose The Resistance or Avalon when…
- You want hidden-team deduction around a table with no facilitator.
- You want everyone to remain involved rather than removing players from the session.
- Your group is between five and ten and prefers mission votes to real-time movement.
Choose Werewolf or Mafia when…
- You have a larger group, normally eight or more.
- Someone is happy to moderate and narrate.
- Players enjoy accusations, public voting and the possibility of being eliminated before the end.
Choose Blood on the Clocktower when…
- You can provide a Storyteller and want a deliberately facilitated experience.
- Your group ranges from five to twenty players, plus the Storyteller.
- You want dead players to keep contributing within the game’s restrictions.
- You are comfortable with a longer, more involved session and preparation.
Choose Two Rooms and a Boom when…
- You have six to thirty people and two rooms or comparable spaces.
- You want a moderator-free, no-elimination party game.
- Your group enjoys timed movement and face-to-face negotiation more than digital combat.
Choose Coup when…
- You have two to six players and want a roughly fifteen-minute tabletop option.
- You enjoy bluffing and challenges but accept that players can be eliminated.
A practical decision checklist
Ask these questions before selecting the game. The answers usually identify the right format faster than comparing themes.
- Are all players online? If yes, Death Dealer is the only option in this list built as a PC video game. If not, select a tabletop game.
- How many people are attending? Six or fewer keeps Death Dealer or Coup in range; five to ten opens The Resistance/Avalon; eight or more suits Werewolf; six to thirty suits Two Rooms and a Boom; five to twenty plus a Storyteller suits Blood on the Clocktower.
- Will somebody facilitate? Death Dealer, The Resistance/Avalon, Two Rooms and a Boom and Coup do not describe a separate moderator. Werewolf needs one, and Blood on the Clocktower needs a Storyteller.
- Can players be removed? Death Dealer makes one player the hunted after the opening contest, but the Steam excerpt does not establish every later elimination rule. Werewolf and Coup explicitly use elimination in the comparison guide. The Resistance/Avalon and Two Rooms and a Boom keep players in, while Blood on the Clocktower keeps dead players involved within limits.
- What kind of interaction is wanted? Pick Death Dealer for movement, pursuit and weapons; The Resistance, Avalon, Werewolf, Blood on the Clocktower and Coup for discussion and deception; Two Rooms and a Boom for timed negotiation across spaces.
- How much uncertainty is acceptable? A finished tabletop ruleset is easier to plan around. Death Dealer’s Early Access roadmap means systems and content can change, even though the developers say the core loop is playable.
Setting up a Death Dealer session
Because the full release status and requirements can change, use this checklist close to play time.
- Open the current Steam store page and confirm whether the demo or full Early Access build is available.
- Check that each player’s computer meets the listed Windows requirement: Windows 10 64-bit or newer. Compare the current GPU recommendation with each machine; the checked listing recommended a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 4 GB.
- Confirm the group size does not exceed six players.
- Explain the phase change before starting: chips and the card game determine the hunted player, then the other players acquire weapons and pursue that player in the bunker.
- Tell first-time players that the slot-machine and chip systems are fictional in-game mechanics. Steam states that no real money is involved and that the product is not a real casino.
- If you are using the demo or an Early Access build, expect balance, content and presentation to differ from a later release. Keep the Steam Community hub available for current update notes.
Common mismatches and how to avoid them
Calling Death Dealer “Mafia with guns”
That shorthand sets the wrong expectation. Mafia’s defining structure is a moderator-led hidden-role discussion with votes and elimination. Death Dealer’s documented structure starts with a card contest and becomes a player-controlled hunt. Describe it as a horror party game with social and competitive elements, not as a conventional deduction game.
Assuming the release date is final
November 4, 2026 was a planned date shown on Steam on October 13, 2026. It was still in the future at that check, and Early Access timing can change. Confirm the current date and availability before promising a launch-night session.

Assuming every hunted player is permanently eliminated
The available listing establishes that the card-game loser becomes hunted, but it does not fully specify the consequences after the hunt. Explain only that documented transition until the current rules or in-game tutorial provide more detail.
Buying for a group that wants no downtime
The Resistance/Avalon and Two Rooms and a Boom are safer choices when keeping everyone active is the priority. Werewolf and Coup explicitly involve elimination, while Death Dealer’s complete post-hunt rules were not stated in the checked excerpt.
Bottom-line recommendation by player type
For a six-person online friend group: try Death Dealer if the group wants horror, action and a changing hunter-versus-prey round, and is comfortable with Early Access. If the same group wants conversation, bluffing and a tabletop session, choose The Resistance/Avalon or Coup depending on whether you prefer no elimination or a short elimination game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a large in-person party: choose Werewolf when a moderator and dramatic voting are welcome, Two Rooms and a Boom when you have two spaces and want no elimination, or Blood on the Clocktower when you can provide a Storyteller and want a deeper role system.
For a group specifically searching for “games like Mafia and Werewolf” but without a moderator: The Resistance/Avalon is the clearest fit. Death Dealer removes the moderator by being software-run, but it also changes the activity from social deduction to a card-triggered action hunt.
