Is the LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi Set Retired? How to Check Availability and Prices

LEGO set 71438 is sold out in the US snapshot, available in Austria and labeled retired in Luxembourg and Denmark. Here is how to verify local status and judge resale prices.

LEGO set 71438 does not have one confirmed worldwide status. The LEGO US storefront snapshot showed it as Sold out at $129.99, while Austria showed Available now at €129.99. Luxembourg and Denmark labeled the product Retired product. Because LEGO’s country stores can disagree, no retrieved official page establishes a single global retirement date. Check the storefront for your country on the day you buy, then compare retailer stock and dated resale evidence.

This distinction matters for both buyers and collectors. A sold-out page can become available again, while a retired-product label is a stronger indication that the relevant LEGO storefront no longer sells the set as part of its regular range. Neither label, by itself, tells you what every country store is doing or what a resale seller should charge.

Identify the exact LEGO set

The product is LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi, set 71438. It is an 18+ display model with 1,215 pieces, according to The LEGO Group’s product specification retrieved in 2026. The US listed price in the retrieved snapshot was $129.99; the Austrian page displayed €129.99. These are page snapshots, not guarantees of today’s price or inventory.

Use the set number whenever possible. “Mario and Yoshi” can describe several products, accessories or listings, whereas 71438 identifies this exact 1,215-piece set. Entering the number into LEGO’s search field and into a retailer’s search field also reduces the chance of comparing a different Super Mario product.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The model recreates Mario riding Yoshi in a pixel-art-style display. LEGO’s product-page copy says, “Turn the handle to make Yoshi run with Mario on his back.” A separate dial makes Yoshi’s tongue pop in and out. Those mechanical features work as part of the display model and do not require a separately sold interactive figure.

The set also has an interaction tag for LEGO Mario from set 71439, Luigi from 71440, or Peach from 71441. Those figures are sold separately, so their availability and cost should not be included in the price of set 71438. If you are budgeting for a display-only purchase, you can evaluate the 1,215-piece model on its own; the optional digital interaction is an additional consideration for owners of the compatible figures.

Is LEGO 71438 retired?

Use a regional, date-stamped answer rather than a global yes or no. An official LEGO page marked Retired product is evidence of LEGO’s status label for that particular storefront. A page marked Sold out means the product was not purchasable there when the page was retrieved; it does not by itself prove retirement.

LEGO storefront Status in the retrieved 2026 snapshot Displayed price
United States Sold out $129.99
Austria Available now €129.99
Luxembourg Retired product Not stated
Denmark Retired product Not stated

The conflicting labels mean that “retired” is currently a country-store observation, not a proven worldwide event. The retrieved LEGO pages do not state a definitive global retirement date. Do not treat a secondary tracker’s estimated retirement date as an official LEGO announcement unless LEGO confirms it.

Country selection is not a minor detail. LEGO stores can use different catalogs, currencies, fulfillment systems and inventory pools. A shopper in the United States should not infer that an Austrian “Available now” label can be ordered for US delivery, and a European retired-product label does not prove that every other European storefront uses the same status. Always read the page serving your delivery address.

How to check availability in your country

  1. Open the official LEGO storefront for your country. Search for product number 71438, not just “Mario and Yoshi,” because names and search results can vary by region.
  2. Record the exact label and date. Write down whether the page says Available, Sold out, or Retired product. Stock labels can change without notice.
  3. Check the purchase controls. An add-to-cart button and delivery estimate are stronger evidence of current availability than a product page that merely remains searchable. If the page allows a quantity to be added and presents a delivery estimate, record that information too.
  4. Check established retailers with both identifiers. Search for “71438” and the complete set name. A comparison page retrieved in 2026 showed an Amazon offer and a Target listing marked out of stock, but that snapshot can change. Confirm the listing on the retailer’s own site before paying.
  5. Check the seller’s location and delivery area. A listing can exist but be unavailable for your country, or shipping can make an apparently low price uneconomic.
  6. Calculate the delivered cost. Include shipping, sales tax or VAT, import charges and any marketplace fees. A lower item price can be more expensive after delivery.
  7. Recheck immediately before checkout. Retail inventory and marketplace quantities can change between a search result and payment. Make sure the final cart still shows set 71438, the expected condition and the expected total.

Keep a screenshot or written record of the seller, condition, price and date. This is especially useful when a listing disappears or a marketplace changes its stock label. For a changing collectible market, a dated note tells you what was actually visible rather than what a later page claims was available.

What is LEGO 71438 worth?

There is no single “market price.” Official retail, retailer offers, marketplace asking prices and completed sales measure different things. Compare like-for-like condition and use delivered prices whenever possible.

Evidence type Figure What it represents
US LEGO list price $129.99 Official US page snapshot retrieved in 2026
Austria LEGO list price €129.99 Official Austrian page snapshot retrieved in 2026
BrickReport $149.99 median; $115–$280 range US eBay sealed-listing asking prices observed through October 12, 2026; these are asks, not completed sales
PriceCharting $100.00 and $104.99 Completed-sale entries dated October 7–8, 2026
BrickLink guide $156.03 average of the last six months’ sales Marketplace guide snapshot retrieved in October 2026
BrickLink guide $189.70 average current items for sale Current asking inventory in the same guide snapshot

The BrickReport median is higher than the two PriceCharting sale records, but that is not a contradiction: sellers’ asking prices are not the amounts buyers have actually paid, and two completed sales are a very small sample. BrickLink’s sales average and current-item average also use different measures.

Use the figures as reference points, not as an automatic appraisal. The $149.99 BrickReport median describes sealed US eBay listings observed through October 12, 2026. A seller can ask that amount without finding a buyer. PriceCharting’s $100.00 and $104.99 entries are completed-sale records dated October 7–8, 2026, which provide stronger evidence of transaction prices but represent only two listed sales. BrickLink’s $156.03 six-month sales average smooths a longer period, while its $189.70 current-item average describes active inventory and therefore remains an asking-price measure.

Currency and destination also matter. Do not convert $129.99 and €129.99 mechanically and call the result a worldwide list price: taxes, VAT treatment, exchange rates and shipping policies differ. A US resale listing can be a poor comparison for a buyer in Europe once delivery and import charges are added. State the market and currency whenever you quote a price.

How to compare a resale listing

Before deciding that a listing is cheap or expensive, match the details below:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Condition: sealed, opened, built, or used sets should not be compared as one category. A factory-sealed box generally answers a different buyer need from a built display model.
  • Completeness: verify all 1,215 pieces, the interaction components and any replacement parts. Ask the seller to identify missing or substituted elements rather than assuming a photographed model is complete.
  • Packaging: an original box and instructions can affect collector value, but the seller should state their condition. Crushed, torn or water-damaged packaging should not be treated as equivalent to a clean box.
  • Build state: confirm whether the set is still sealed, sorted into bags, partially built or fully assembled. Disassembly and sorting can affect the time and risk involved for a buyer.
  • Delivered price: add shipping, taxes and import costs to the item price. Compare the final payable total, not only the bold number in a search result.
  • Seller risk: check feedback, photos, payment protection and the return policy. A lower price from an untested seller may carry more risk than a higher price from a seller with clear photographs and buyer protection.
  • Evidence type: separate active asking prices from completed-sale records. An unsold listing cannot establish what buyers are paying.
  • Market and currency: record the country in which the listing is offered. Cross-border costs can erase an apparent discount.

Do not call an unsold listing a market value. A high ask may remain unsold, while a completed sale can reflect a damaged box, missing parts, urgent seller or unusually favorable deal. Read the description and inspect photographs for seals, box condition and completeness before using the price as a comparison.

Retail purchase or resale: which route makes sense?

Buy from LEGO or a normal retailer when

  • Your local LEGO page or retailer has confirmed stock.
  • You want a new, factory-sealed set with standard consumer returns.
  • The delivered price is near the official regional list price.
  • You prefer a straightforward warranty or customer-service route and do not want to verify an individual seller’s parts inventory.

Retail is also the simplest way to avoid uncertainty about whether a set has been opened, rebagged or combined with replacement parts. Confirm that the retailer’s listing is for 71438 and not a similarly named Super Mario product.

Consider resale when

  • Your regional LEGO page is sold out or retired.
  • You can verify the set is sealed or complete and the seller is reputable.
  • You have compared the ask with recent completed sales rather than with another unsold listing.
  • You understand the delivered total, return terms and any cross-border risk.

A resale premium is not automatically evidence of retirement. It may reflect temporary regional stock differences, shipping constraints or a seller testing a high price. Conversely, a price below the US list snapshot does not prove a bargain if the box is damaged, pieces are missing or delivery charges are substantial.

Common mistakes when checking retirement status

Assuming one country represents the world

The US, Austrian, Luxembourg and Danish snapshots demonstrate why country selection matters. Always check the storefront serving your delivery address.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reading “sold out” as “retired”

Sold out describes unavailable inventory at the time of the check. It does not supply a retirement date. A later restock is possible unless LEGO changes the page to a retired-product label.

Reading “available now” as a permanent guarantee

An available label is a point-in-time observation. Inventory can disappear before checkout, and a regional store may not ship to another country. Confirm quantity, delivery estimate and final price in the relevant storefront.

Using a tracker’s estimate as LEGO’s date

Secondary databases can help identify trends, but an estimated date or region-specific record should be labeled as such. The retrieved official pages do not confirm a universal retirement date.

Comparing unlike prices

Do not compare a sealed US listing with a used European listing without adjusting for condition, currency, shipping and taxes. Likewise, do not compare an active ask directly with a completed sale.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Including the optional figures in the set’s value

Mario from 71439, Luigi from 71440 and Peach from 71441 are separately sold figures. Their prices and availability should be evaluated separately from the 71438 display model.

A practical buying checklist

  • Confirm the set number is 71438.
  • Check the LEGO storefront for your country and note its status and date.
  • Check whether the page provides an add-to-cart control and delivery estimate.
  • Check at least one retailer’s own listing, not only a comparison page.
  • For resale, confirm sealed or used condition, completeness, box and instructions.
  • Ask about missing pieces, substituted parts or damaged packaging when the listing is unclear.
  • Calculate the delivered total in your currency, including shipping, tax, VAT or import charges.
  • Compare current asks with dated completed sales.
  • Review seller reputation, buyer protection and returns.
  • Save the listing details and date if you are comparing offers over several days.
  • Remember that Mario, Luigi and Peach interactive figures are separate products.

Is LEGO 71438 still available?

Availability depends on the country and the date checked. Austria showed availability in the 2026 snapshot, while the US page was sold out. Check LEGO’s local page and then verify any retailer listing on the seller’s own website.

Where can I buy LEGO 71438?

Start with the official LEGO storefront for your delivery country, then check established retailers using both “71438” and the full set name. Comparison pages can reveal leads, but confirm stock, condition and final price at the retailer before ordering.

What is LEGO Mario and Yoshi 71438 worth?

Reference points include a $129.99 US LEGO list price, a €129.99 Austrian snapshot, a $149.99 median asking price for sealed US eBay listings observed through October 12, 2026, and PriceCharting completed-sale entries of $100.00 and $104.99 dated October 7–8, 2026. BrickLink showed a $156.03 six-month sales average and $189.70 average current items for sale. Match condition, market, currency and delivered cost before drawing a conclusion.

Does “sold out” mean LEGO will never make the set again?

No. Sold out means the product was not purchasable on that storefront when checked. It does not provide a retirement date or rule out a later restock.

Does the set include Mario, Luigi or Peach?

The interaction tag can be used with LEGO Mario from 71439, Luigi from 71440 or Peach from 71441, but those figures are sold separately. Do not add their prices to the cost of 71438 unless you are intentionally building a larger setup.

Should I pay more for a sealed set?

That depends on your priorities. A sealed set may be preferable for collecting, while an opened or built set can cost less. Compare the seller’s condition description, box and instructions, completeness, delivered total and completed-sale evidence rather than assuming every sealed listing deserves the same premium.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How often should I recheck the price?

Recheck when you are ready to buy. Retail stock, marketplace asks and shipping costs can change quickly, and a dated snapshot is not a guarantee of today’s offer.

Bottom line on LEGO Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi 71438

Set 71438 should be treated as regionally inconsistent, not universally confirmed retired. The US snapshot was sold out at $129.99, Austria showed availability at €129.99, and Luxembourg and Denmark showed retired-product labels. Since no retrieved LEGO page supplies a worldwide retirement date, check your local LEGO store and retailer inventory on the day you buy. If you shop resale, judge the offer by condition, delivered cost and completed-sale evidence—not by an asking price alone.

Frequently Asked Questions
