Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launched on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. It later arrived on Windows PC on March 19, 2026, so the game is no longer PlayStation-only. Here’s what the original date announcement meant, where the sequel is available now, and what its official descriptions say about the story and features.
When did Death Stranding 2 come out?
Hideo Kojima announced the release date at a special SXSW panel. PlayStation’s announcement, published March 9, 2025, set the PS5 launch for June 26, 2025 and said preorders would open March 17. Kojima Productions confirmed the game was available on PS5 on June 26. PlayStation’s SXSW announcement and Kojima Productions’ product page document the date.
The June 26 date is therefore a past launch date, not an upcoming release. The announcement also listed launch-era edition prices; those figures should not be treated as current prices.
What platforms is Death Stranding 2 on?
Kojima Productions lists PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, with a June 26, 2025 PS5 release and a March 19, 2026 PC release. PlayStation identified Steam and the Epic Games Store as PC storefronts in its PC launch announcement. Check the relevant store for current regional availability and pricing.

The PC announcement also lists 21:9 support on PC and PS5. These are announced feature specifications, not independent performance results; actual experience can depend on hardware and updates.
What is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach about?
Kojima Productions describes Sam and his companions traveling across Australia to save humanity from extinction. The sequel returns to the central question, “Should we have connected?”—a line from the developer’s June 26, 2025 launch announcement.

The developer’s PC announcement describes the Social Strand System as a way for players around the world to connect and shape one another’s worlds. It also names human enemies and environmental threats including earthquakes, sandstorms, forest fires and Timefall. These are the studio’s descriptions of the game’s premise and systems, not an independent assessment of how they play.
What changed in the sequel’s design?
In a June 25, 2025 PlayStation Blog interview, members of the development team discussed changes to environments, combat and performance modes.

- Changing time of day: Technical art director and lead environment artist Takayuki Uchida said the sequel adds a day-and-night cycle, changing the scenery and atmosphere.
- Combat approach: Lead level designer Hiroaki Yoshiike said the team aimed for combat that felt more intuitive, satisfying and gritty than in the predecessor. He also said players no longer need to switch bullet types according to enemy type.
- PS5 modes: The interview says base PS5 Performance Mode uses earlier level-of-detail switching and dynamic resolution to stabilize frame rate. For PS5 Pro, the team described higher resolution closer to Resolution Mode while maintaining 60fps gameplay. These statements are developer descriptions, not independent tests.
Which edition should you check?
The US PlayStation Store listing accessed October 8, 2026 showed Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. At that time, it displayed prices of $69.99 and $79.99 respectively, and a five-hour PlayStation Plus Premium game trial. Those are a dated US-store snapshot; check the live listing for current price, trial terms and edition contents in your region.
The March 2025 announcement described a Collector’s Edition with a digital game download, 48-hour early access, a collector’s box, a 15-inch Magellan Man statue, a 3-inch Dollman figurine, art cards, a letter from Hideo Kojima and digital items. It listed launch-era prices of $229.99, €249.99 and ¥31,980. For a current purchase decision, compare the edition contents and regional price at the storefront you intend to use. On PC, also check hardware requirements and the features available for your setup; announced options such as upscaling, frame generation and ultrawide support do not guarantee a particular performance level.
