What stays the same?
The core experience is still Sam Porter Bridges’ journey across a fractured United States, built around making deliveries, traversing difficult terrain and connecting isolated communities. Kojima Productions says the new material is integrated into the core game rather than presented as a separate campaign. Story missions and locations
The edition adds story missions and new areas, including the Ruined Factory, an underground facility with additional dangers. Kojima Productions describes the added material as extending the storylines and introducing new stealth missions. Kojima Productions’ Director’s Cut page

Challenges and repeatable activities
Beyond deliveries and the main story, Director’s Cut adds a Firing Range for practicing weapons, a vehicle racing track and mode, boss battle challenges, and selected mission challenges. Rankings let Porters compare their performance with other players. PlayStation’s launch announcement
New tools for combat and traversal
Combat additions include a dropkick and the Maser Gun, which uses electricity to stun or pacify enemies. The support skeleton boosts movement speed and cargo capacity. For deliveries and travel, new equipment includes cargo catapults, jump ramps, Chiral Bridges, stabiliser functions and Buddy Bots. Music, cosmetics and crossover content
Director’s Cut includes additional music and cosmetic options, as well as expanded community activities. It also includes the Half-Life and Cyberpunk 2077 crossover content that appeared in the original PC release. Kojima Productions’ PC release announcement
What does the PS5 version add specifically?
The expanded missions and gameplay systems are part of Director’s Cut across platforms, but several presentation features are specific to the PS5 edition. PlayStation and Kojima Productions describe DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, 3D audio with compatible headphones, faster loading, HDR support and a letterboxed widescreen mode. PS5 graphics options include performance mode, which targets scaled 4K at up to 60 frames per second, and fidelity mode, which offers native 4K. 4K and HDR require compatible display hardware. These are platform features, not evidence of a different campaign. On PC, the relevant comparison is the added content and systems; the PS5-specific controller and display features do not apply in the same way.

Can you transfer an original-game save?
PlayStation says PS4 save data can be transferred to the PS5 Director’s Cut. Kojima Productions’ PC release notice also says existing PC owners can transfer saves to the PC Director’s Cut. Save transfer is distinct from ownership: having an original-game save does not itself establish that you own the newer edition or qualify for a particular current upgrade price.
