DeathlyStillness (listed on Steam as 死寂（DeathlyStillness）) is a free-to-play third-person zombie game for PC, developed and published by 谌嘉诚. Its original premise is straightforward: fight zombies, find ammunition, and manage health. The game has changed since its 2021 release, with developer announcements describing additional modes and features. Steam lists the game’s requirements, but its current client supports Windows 10 and later, even though the game page still lists older Windows versions.

DeathlyStillness is an action, adventure, casual, and indie game on Steam. The listing gives its release date as September 4, 2021, and identifies 谌嘉诚 as both developer and publisher. The game is free-to-play.
In the Steam description, the developer says the game was made as a teaching case and that Steam was a way for fans to download and experience it. The description calls it a third-person zombie game and frames its original objective as killing all the zombies. 谌嘉诚 also wrote, “Please don’t have high expectations for the game, this is just a game I made for the tutorial, there is no gameplay, no plot, pure entertainment”. That is the developer’s self-effacing description, not an independent review or a definitive account of every later build. The same description says production took 17 days; that figure is the developer’s statement, not an independently verified development record.

How does the gameplay work?
The original Steam description outlines a survival-and-combat loop: fight zombies, look for ammunition if your marksmanship is weak, and watch your health because it says there are no health packs. It also describes a melee skill that can trigger a one-hit kill after five or more melee attacks, plus two maps and weapons with different difficulty levels. These are the store description’s overview; later developer updates describe a broader feature set.
Modes described by the developer
An October 2025 announcement describes two modes. Story Mode centers on the Mist map and searching for supplies. Challenge Mode offers shorter sessions on selectable maps, with activities described as clearing, holding, searching for supplies, and evacuating. The announcement also mentions a wheel menu and a customizable mod character. These are developer-published descriptions rather than independent gameplay tests.

Features added or changed in updates
Developer announcements show that features continued to change after release. The notes describe a drone with reconnaissance, grenade and decoy, night-vision, and thermal-imaging functions; a February 2026 update added a loot system on the Mist Map; and a May 2026 update added 2x and 3x scopes. August 2026 notes mention updated zombie models and animations, a zombie enrage mode, and a 4x scope. On September 7, 2026, an announcement noted version 0.061 and manual saves for Misty Map; a September 8 follow-up fixed a keyboard key-assignment issue. What are DeathlyStillness’s PC system requirements?
Steam lists the following requirements. The page associates its minimum target with 720p at 60 fps and its recommended target with 1080p at 60 fps; these are stated targets, not a guarantee of performance on every PC.

There is an important Windows-version distinction: the game listing still displays Windows 7 and 8.1 as supported targets, but a Steam client notice says that, from January 1, 2024, the client supports Windows 10 and later only. Meeting the listed hardware specifications does not by itself guarantee a given frame rate; actual performance depends on the complete PC configuration.
Check your PC before installing
- Compare your processor and graphics card with the listed minimum or recommended parts.
- Check that the PC has at least the stated RAM and 12 GB of available storage.
- Confirm DirectX 11 support and account for the Steam client’s Windows 10-or-later requirement.
Because the game is free, a computer purchase is relevant only if your current PC is unsuitable; the published requirements do not establish that any particular PC model is endorsed or necessary.

Is DeathlyStillness free, and what should players know before downloading?
Steam lists DeathlyStillness as free-to-play, so the listing does not require a game purchase. Its content notice warns of frequent violence or gore and common adult content. Steam’s language table reports English and Simplified Chinese support. If language availability matters, check the current store page for your region, since regional store information can vary.
