Deep Rock Galactic Crashing: Official Troubleshooting and a Dated DX11 Workaround

Deep Rock Galactic crashes can have different causes. Match the error signature to Ghost Ship Games’ guidance before trying a targeted workaround.

Deep Rock Galactic crashes can have different causes, so the right workaround depends on when the crash happens and what its report says. Ghost Ship Games’ official FAQ recommends identifying the crash signature before trying a targeted fix; its DirectX 11 suggestion from April 2021 applies to a specific startup-crash context, not every current crash.

First, identify which crash you have

“Deep Rock Galactic crashing” does not identify one confirmed, current incident. The official troubleshooting guidance covers several failure types, and the FAQ does not establish that they share a cause. Note when the crash occurs, preserve the exact error message, and compare the report’s opening lines and signature with the relevant FAQ section.

  • Restart the game and check whether the crash happens consistently.
  • Temporarily remove CPU or GPU overclocks while troubleshooting.
  • Record the exact error and the initial lines of the crash report.

Ghost Ship Games’ official crash FAQ directs players to the matching troubleshooting section. If its listed steps do not help, it points to the game’s issue-reporting site or Discord.

If the game crashes on startup, test its DirectX options

The FAQ says the game defaults to DirectX 12 and provides launch choices for DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. Testing the other supported renderer is a targeted startup troubleshooting step, not a universal fix for crashes during play.

The DX11 workaround has a specific date and context

In its Update 34 Hotfix 1 announcement on April 23, 2021, Ghost Ship Games said some players were crashing when opening the game and recommended trying DX11 instead of the then-default DX12. For Steam, the post instructs players to add -dx11 to the game’s launch options. This is a historical workaround for that startup-crash report; it does not confirm that an unidentified crash today has the same cause. See the April 23, 2021 announcement.

If the report names Intel integrated graphics

The FAQ gives separate advice for its listed Intel integrated HD graphics driver crash signature, igd10iumd64. For that signature, try limiting the frame rate to 60–120 FPS or enabling VSync; if the issue remains, update the graphics drivers. The FAQ then lists clean driver removal and reinstallation as further steps. These recommendations are tied to that signature, not to crashes generally. See the FAQ’s Intel graphics troubleshooting section.

If the crash may be related to mods

Mods can cause crashes or other problems, including after a game update when a mod has not yet been updated. That makes mods a possibility to investigate, not the default explanation for every crash. If the timing or symptoms make a mod connection plausible, use Ghost Ship Games’ mod troubleshooting instructions to disable modding and remove mod-related files.

Keep historical incidents separate from your symptoms

Other dated reports do not establish the cause of an unrelated crash. Ghost Ship Games’ January 4, 2024 patch notes attributed a pre-Christmas crash to older-generation Ryzen CPUs and described attempted fixes and additional logging. A January 5 post said the specific Jagged Bugbasher hat issue had been fixed. Neither report identifies the cause of an unspecified crash happening now.
