Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is a free, seven-chapter campaign for the free-to-play Delta Force base game, but its pace and design are very different from the larger-scale multiplayer modes. In PC Gamer’s February 2025 hands-on, the campaign’s quick lethality made careful room-clearing and squad communication feel essential. The same preview found the levels tightly linear and questioned whether their difficulty came from smart enemy tactics or simply how little damage players could take.
What the preview found
Wes Fenlon’s PC Gamer hands-on preview, published February 19, 2025, presents a campaign built around slow, punishing firefights rather than the more arcade-like feel of Delta Force’s multiplayer. In the mission he played, exposure to incoming fire was dangerous enough to make the group move methodically from room to room and think about ammunition and medical support.

Fenlon describes a building defense in Mogadishu in which one teammate supplied ammunition while a medic treated bleeding players. As the mission progressed, the group began calling out enemy positions and planning angles together. In that session, cooperative communication was not decorative: it helped the squad respond to a fight that punished mistakes quickly.
What works in that approach
The slow pace gives each room and exposed crossing weight. Fenlon found the opening mission tense, with ammo management, healing, and callouts all contributing to the pressure. That is a useful contrast with the broad, faster multiplayer modes: a player expecting another large-scale arcade-style match may find the campaign’s deliberate pace a substantial change.

Where the preview saw limits
Fenlon also found the levels cramped and linear, with little apparent evidence of sophisticated enemy flanking or varied approaches. His concern was that the challenge seemed to rely more on low player durability than on opponents adapting in tactically interesting ways. He additionally found a vehicle-turret sequence susceptible to old-fashioned instant-fail moments.
Those are impressions from one journalist’s hands-on preview, not a comprehensive assessment of every mission or the released campaign. They point to the central trade-off visible in that session: the campaign can create tension through vulnerability and teamwork, while offering less tactical freedom than its squad premise might suggest.

How the campaign is structured
Team Jade’s official campaign announcement lists seven chapters. The sequence moves through combat, defense, convoy and rescue scenarios, then an extraction-focused finale; the chapter names are:
- Irene
- The Fuse
- Black Hawk Down
- Lost Convoy
- Valor
- N.S.D.Q.
- Mogadishu Mile
The announcement describes the new campaign as a reboot of the 2001 film and a tribute to the 2003 game. PC Gamer also characterizes it as a remake of the earlier release. The historical setting is the Somali civil war, and Fenlon’s preview raises the political framing of a game depicting the U.S. military in that conflict; that is his critique, not a stated developer position.

Can you play solo, and how long is it?
Solo play is supported, but Team Jade says it is “incredibly challenging” and recommends a full four-player squad for the optimal experience. The official FAQ addresses the question directly in its campaign announcement. Fenlon’s preview involved two other players and highlights the practical value of callouts, ammunition support, and medical aid, so the campaign is most clearly pitched as coordinated co-op rather than an easy solo run.
Team Jade estimated four to five hours for the seven missions, according to PC Gamer. That is a developer estimate, not a measured completion time; actual play time can vary with squad size, difficulty, and pace.

Availability, release dates, and PC requirements
The campaign is free downloadable content, but it requires the Delta Force base game on Steam. Team Jade announced free PC availability beginning February 21, 2025 at 02:00 UTC; Steam’s listing gives the DLC release date as February 20, 2025. The difference reflects the sources’ date conventions; both describe the same PC release window.
