The same FAQ said new players and more experienced players were placed in separate matchmaking pools, so “no SBMM” does not mean that experience or other factors never affect matchmaking. A September 2026 Xbox Wire interview later confirmed cross-region match formation for Operations, with latency taken into account, but did not disclose a complete matchmaking formula.
What Delta Force’s developers said about SBMM
In its December 24, 2024 official FAQ, the Delta Force team answered the question, “Does the game have Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM), and can it be removed?” It described a professional SBMM system as using performance measures such as win rate, mode preference, K/D ratio, and game score to assess skill and match similarly skilled players. The team said that approach did not fit its goal of a more random, pressure-free experience, concluding: “Therefore, we do not use SBMM.”

That answer rejected performance-based matching as the team defined it; it was not a claim that matchmaking ignores every player characteristic. In the next sentence, the team said it had separated new players and more experienced players into different matchmaking pools during the Open Beta to give newcomers a smoother learning experience.

The same FAQ said ranked selection did not use player scores for matchmaking and that, in the described PC Warfare setting, ranked and unranked players would be placed in the same queue. These are statements from the December 2024 FAQ, not a guarantee of current behavior across every mode or platform.

The team also cited practical constraints on matchmaking and wait times. Its explanation referred to Warfare matches requiring 64 real players, map requirements, player availability across regions and time zones, latency, and teammates entering from different regions. It reported that it often saw 100,000 concurrent players on Steam at that time; that was the team’s historical figure, not an independently verified current player count.
What the September 2026 update adds—and what it doesn’t
In a September 25, 2026 Xbox Wire interview, Game Director Shadow Guo said Operations could form matches across regions while accounting for latency to improve matchmaking efficiency. Guo said the team was monitoring performance and player feedback and considering the same capability for Warfare and other modes. The interview therefore confirms the cross-region capability for Operations, but describes expansion to other modes as under consideration.

- Engage in deadly Close Quarters Combat and long-range sniper fire
The interview does not publish the full matchmaking algorithm or establish every factor used to form a match. Nor does cross-region matching by itself show that the game uses performance-based SBMM. It addresses where players may be drawn from and how latency is considered, not whether players are grouped by win rate, K/D, or another skill rating.

Why the distinction between modes matters
Xbox Wire describes Operations as a PvEvP extraction mode and Warfare as large-scale combat of up to 32 versus 32. That difference provides useful context for why matchmaking details may vary by mode, but it does not establish that the modes use different skill formulas.

The most precise answer is that the developers’ December 2024 FAQ denied traditional performance-based SBMM while acknowledging an experience-based separation for newcomers during the Open Beta. The later Operations update concerns cross-region matching and latency. Public statements cited here do not provide a full current specification for all modes, platforms, and regions.
