What changed in DELTARUNE 0.0.253?
The DELTARUNE team announced version 0.0.253 on July 30, 2026. After a loss to the Shadow Crystal boss, a Pink Bomb appears outside the arena. Talk to it to choose “Nicer” or “Meaner.” The feature is optional: it offers a choice after losing rather than applying a blanket difficulty reduction to the fight. What do Nicer and Meaner do?

Why the update is described as a nerf
The “nerf” is the Nicer option, which gives players a visual indication of small-bomb targets and a little more time before those bombs explode. It does not simply weaken every part of the encounter. Players can instead select Meaner, which increases damage across all attacks and slightly speeds up a couple of them.

The option follows an earlier preview. In the v0.0.250 announcement, the team said it would add “an option to nerf the bombs of the Shadow Crystal boss after losing to them once.” Version 0.0.253 is where that choice was described as the released Nicer and Meaner settings. Is it Deltarune’s hardest boss?
“Most difficult” is a subjective description, not an official ranking. The v0.0.253 notes call the encounter the Shadow Crystal boss, while the version history identifies it as the Pink fight. Neither source ranks it against other bosses or measures player difficulty. It is more precise to describe it as a challenging optional Chapter 5 fight than to treat “hardest” as an established fact. - Chapter 5 boss adjustment: A July 2026 clarification said the chapter boss became “extremely slightly easier” on losses six through sixteen within one gameplay session; players who lost five times or fewer saw no effect.
