This walkthrough follows Deltarune Chapter One from the school opening through the King encounter, with practical pointers for battles, puzzles, and route choices. Jevil is optional; his fragment locations and fight are kept in a clearly marked spoiler section.
Before you start: chapter, demo, and route choices
Deltarune is a chapter-based game built around exploration and bullet-dodging battles. Chapter One is included in the free Chapter 1–2 demo as well as the full game. In combat, you can fight or use commands such as ACT to create opportunities to spare foes.
The official FAQ says there is one ending. Choosing nonviolent or violent actions can change encounters and local scenes, but those choices should not be treated as separate endings. For a mostly nonviolent run, avoid defeating Darkners through violent attacks and use encounter actions to make them spareable; otherwise, choose attacks when you want to resolve fights through damage.

These are ways to play through encounters, not competing endings. The official FAQ, updated June 24, 2026, lists the game for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5; it says a physical edition is not available yet. Read the official FAQ for current availability and save-related details.

Battle basics: ACT, Spare, TP, and defense
During a turn, read the battle text and enemy behavior before choosing an action. ACT can reveal what an enemy needs or move it toward a spare condition. Once Spare is available, select it to end the encounter without defeating that enemy. If you are taking a violent approach, Fight is the direct damage option.
- Watch the target: ACT actions and spare conditions can vary by enemy, so do not assume one command works on every foe.
- Defend when necessary: When it is your turn, defending can reduce the risk of taking damage during the next bullet-dodging sequence and can help build TP for later actions.
- Track HP: If a party member is low on HP, use an item or healing action before another difficult sequence rather than risking a knockout.
- Use TP deliberately: Stronger actions can consume TP. Build it through battle behavior such as defending, then spend it when it helps with a dangerous fight or a healing need.
Enemy attacks shift control into a bullet-dodging arena. Move the heart away from projectiles and hazards until the attack ends; surviving these sequences is as important as choosing commands well.
School opening and entry into the Dark World
Chapter One begins in the Light World, with Kris and Susie at school. Follow the opening objectives and dialogue, then proceed into the supply closet with Susie. The transition into the Dark World is a story beat; continue forward through the new area rather than searching the school for a hidden route.
Once you meet Ralsei, the game starts teaching its party and battle rhythm. Pay attention to the first prompts: they establish how to select a party member, choose actions, and respond to enemy attacks. You can use the early encounters to learn ACT and Spare before the rooms become more involved.

Field and Forest: follow the required path, then explore
In the first Dark World areas, advance through the connected rooms and follow the visible route toward the Forest. When a path is blocked by a puzzle or encounter, solve that obstacle to continue; optional chests and side paths can wait until the required route is clear.
- Explore each new room before leaving. Check side paths and visible interactables for chests, switches, or short puzzle branches, then return to the main route.
- Use battle actions to reduce friction. If you are pursuing a nonviolent run, test ACT options and look for the point at which Spare becomes available. If not, resolve enemies with Fight.
- Follow puzzle cues instead of forcing the route. Inspect nearby objects and signs for hints, and use switches or room mechanisms that visibly affect the obstruction ahead.
- Backtrack only when you have a reason. Revisit earlier rooms if a newly accessible path or item makes it worthwhile; otherwise, keep moving toward the Forest and Card Castle.
The available walkthrough references cover the broad route, bosses, items, and secret-boss rewards, but the precise sequence of every room mechanism is not established here. Use the game’s visual cues and prompts for puzzle solutions rather than relying on unverified room-by-room directions.

Card Castle and the King encounter
Card Castle is the chapter’s final required stretch. Continue through its rooms, using the same approach as before: follow the main path, check obvious side branches for supplies, and conserve healing items if party HP is low. The King is the climactic required encounter.
In the King battle, keep moving through the bullet patterns and use the turn-based commands that match your chosen approach. A nonviolent run calls for encounter actions and a spare opportunity rather than relying on violent defeats; a violent run can use Fight. The local scene can differ with your choices, but the official FAQ identifies only one ending for the game.

After Chapter One: save and continue
Complete the post-battle sequence and use the game’s save prompt or save point when offered. Chapter One is part of a chapter-based game, and the official FAQ’s platform-specific guidance is the right place to check how save data carries forward on your version. Do not assume that an import or continuation behaves identically across PC, Mac, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, and PS5.
Spoilers: how to unlock and face Jevil
Spoiler warning: Jevil is an optional hidden boss, not a required step for finishing Chapter One. Finding him requires three key fragments and assembling them into a key. The cited fragment guide establishes the three-fragment method, but exact room-by-room directions are not confirmed here; check a dedicated current guide in-game context before backtracking if you need precise locations.
Once the key is assembled, use it to access Jevil’s optional encounter. Expect a more demanding bullet-dodging fight than the required path. The walkthrough reference reports different reward outcomes depending on whether you defeat or spare him, so choose based on the reward and route you want rather than treating the fight as necessary for the chapter’s ending.
