In a May 31, 2021 GamesBeat interview, cofounders Adam Bradford and Travis Frederick described tools for organizing games, communicating during play, and building a community afterward. Their comments document a historical plan, not a verified description of Demiplane today.
What Demiplane was meant to do
Bradford described Demiplane as a platform to bring gamers, hosts, and creators together and improve tabletop role-playing. The planned experience followed a game from preparation through play and into its aftermath. The interview names Dungeons & Dragons and Vampire: The Masquerade as examples, not as a definitive or current list of supported systems.
Before a game
The founders envisioned tools to prepare, find players, and match groups. The aim was to make it easier to assemble a group and get ready to play, rather than leaving all coordination to separate services and messages.
During a game
The described toolkit included voice and video, searchable shared journals, task tracking, inventory, text channels, and private one-to-one conversations. These were features the founders discussed in 2021; the interview does not verify which, if any, are available now.

After a game
Bradford and Frederick discussed ratings, rewards, optional tips, and profiles intended to help players and game masters show their experience. Frederick also described paid games and optional tips for game masters, with safeguards intended to make payments fair. He likened a tip to bringing snacks or food to an in-person session. The interview gives no prices, commission rates, or current payment terms.
How its intended focus differed from map-centered VTTs
The founders said Demiplane was not trying to compete directly with Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds on maps, grids, and measurement tools. Their proposed distinction was emphasis: Demiplane would help groups coordinate and communicate, while a visual tabletop could serve groups that wanted map-based play.
Rank #2
Frederick named Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, and Foundry while describing an intended approach that would let groups launch or use an external VTT. That is a statement of the 2021 positioning, not confirmation of present-day integrations or technical compatibility.
| Comparison point | Demiplane’s intended role, as described in 2021 | Map-centered VTTs in the founders’ comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Primary emphasis | Group coordination and social interaction around play | Maps, grids, and measurement tools |
| Use together | Intended to make it easy to launch or use an external VTT | Could provide the visual tabletop when a group wanted those tools |
| Specific systems or integrations | The interview gives examples, but does not establish a current supported-systems list | Current compatibility and system support are not established by the interview |
The comparison describes the founders’ aims, not an independent assessment of the products or their current capabilities. The interview also mentions Zoom as a general video service the founders had used for games before a purpose-built experience; it does not establish a current Demiplane feature or integration.

Safety, privacy, and the question of minors
The founders spoke about private group spaces, safeguards around paid games, and the goal of building a healthy community. Bradford said supporting minors might be possible in the future, but would require care and additional safeguards. The interview therefore presents access for minors as a future consideration—not as a supported feature at the time.
These comments describe goals and contemplated protections, not independently verified safety outcomes or a complete account of the platform’s policies. The interview reports no safety statistics.

What “making the world a better place” meant to the founders
Frederick framed the ambition as a personal belief: “I am a firm believer that if everyone in the world played RPGs, the world would just flat out be a better place.” Bradford connected role-playing with cooperation, communication, and empathy, and described the product ambition this way: “At the end of the day, we are aiming to make every part of the game better.”
Those statements explain the founders’ motivation; they are not evidence that RPGs have a measured social effect. The GamesBeat interview reports no market-size, user-count, safety, or social-outcome statistics.

What the interview does—and does not—establish
GamesBeat published the interview on May 31, 2021, and its page notes an update on June 19, 2025. The material documents what Bradford and Frederick said they wanted Demiplane to be. It does not establish the platform’s current ownership, availability, pricing, active features, geographic reach, or system compatibility. Those details should not be inferred from the historical roadmap.
