Bungie says it can occur when packet loss or a connection interruption affects the route between your home network and Bungie. The code points to a connectivity problem, but it does not identify the exact cause. Start by checking service status, then temporarily test a wired connection if you’re using Wi-Fi.
What causes Destiny 2 error code BABOON?
Bungie describes BABOON as a general networking error that may involve packet loss or a disconnection between your home network and Bungie. Possible contributors include ISP saturation, broader internet congestion, unstable Wi-Fi, or a temporary interruption on a mobile hotspot. The code alone cannot tell you which one is responsible. Bungie’s BABOON guidance explains the error and its first diagnostic step.
How to troubleshoot BABOON
-
Check Destiny service status
Before changing your home network, check Bungie’s Destiny Server and Update Status page for an outage, maintenance, or update that could affect access. If services are disrupted, local troubleshooting may not help until they are available again.
-
Temporarily test a wired connection
If you’re playing over Wi-Fi, connect your platform to the router with an Ethernet cable if one is available, then see whether BABOON recurs. Bungie specifically recommends switching from Wi-Fi to wired “at least temporarily” to help rule out wireless signal strength or stability. This is a diagnostic test, not a guarantee that the cable will fix the issue, and Bungie does not require a particular cable type. See Bungie’s Wi-Fi versus wired connection guidance.

-
Fully close and relaunch Destiny 2 if login is stuck
If repeated BABOON errors leave you unable to get past login, force quit Destiny 2 completely and relaunch it. Bungie recommends this to exit that repeated-login state; simply retrying login may not be enough.
-
Use Bungie’s network troubleshooting steps if the error continues
For recurring disconnects, follow the Bungie Network Troubleshooting Guide. Bungie’s general advice is to close and restart Destiny after a single disconnect; recurring errors warrant broader checks, including restarting and clearing your platform’s cache, testing a wired connection, and reviewing relevant network guidance.

Ask your ISP or Bungie for help when the pattern persists
If the error continues after those checks, contact your internet service provider about connection stability, network traffic, or possible packet loss. You can also consult Bungie Help or the Bungie #Help forum. A router setting or a new networking product is not a guaranteed fix; the useful next step is identifying whether the interruption appears to be local, ISP-related, or part of a Bungie service issue. Bungie’s network guide provides the official troubleshooting route.
How to tell whether Wi-Fi may be involved
The most direct comparison is to try the same game session over wired Ethernet, then see whether the disconnect pattern changes. If BABOON stops during the wired test, that suggests Wi-Fi stability may be a factor, though it does not prove the cause. If it persists, the problem may lie elsewhere along the connection between your home network and Bungie. A wired test only requires a cable you already have access to; Bungie does not specify a required category, length, or brand.
