Its progress mechanic is consistent throughout: identify a Hive symbol, defeat the associated Lucent Hive, take the Vestige it leaves, and deposit it at the matching location. The encounters are the opening ritual, Ecthar, the Shield of Savathûn, and the final boss, Šimmumah ur-Nokru.

For a coordinated run, assign one player to repeat symbol callouts and have the team confirm the symbol before a Vestige carrier leaves the area. Symbols and matching deposit locations are the navigation cues that matter most. The encounter summaries below describe the mechanic flow; exact traversal landmarks and route diagrams can vary in usefulness and are not needed to understand the loop.

- Find and read the relevant Hive symbol.
- Use that clue to locate the associated Lucent Hive enemy and defeat it.
- Claim the Vestige from the enemy’s Ghost.
- Carry the Vestige to the location marked by the matching symbol and deposit it.
Keep the symbol in mind while moving: defeating an enemy is only part of the step, and depositing the Vestige at the corresponding location is what advances the mechanic. The community-maintained Ghosts of the Deep encounter summary outlines this recurring sequence.

Opening ritual
The opening section teaches the dungeon’s core loop. Follow the ritual route, identify the Hive rune, defeat the Lucent Hive at the relevant site, take its Vestige from its Ghost, and deposit it at the matching statue. Continue by applying the same symbol-to-enemy-to-deposit logic as the ritual progresses.
Pay attention to callouts before moving on. The symbol is the clue that links the Vestige to its deposit point; do not assume that the nearest statue is the correct one.
Ecthar, the Shield of Savathûn
Ecthar’s encounter extends the same mechanic into an underwater rune route:
- Read the relevant wall runes and note the symbols the team needs to match.
- Touch the corresponding underwater locations to summon the Lucent Hive Wizards.
- Defeat the Wizards and collect the Vestiges from their Ghosts.
- Deposit each Vestige at the statue bearing its corresponding symbol.
Coordinate the rune callouts and deposits so carriers know where each Vestige belongs. The important mechanic is the match between the read rune, the Lucent Hive sequence, and the destination statue—not simply clearing enemies in the room.
Šimmumah ur-Nokru, final boss
The final encounter combines Deepsight with the dungeon’s symbol-and-Vestige loop. Around Oryx’s body, use Deepsight to reveal the relevant symbols and connect them to the Lucent Hive enemies and deposit locations.
- Activate Deepsight and identify the symbols shown around Oryx’s body.
- Defeat the relevant Lucent Hive and claim each Vestige from its Ghost.
- Deposit each Vestige at the location indicated by its matching symbol.
- Repeat the mechanic until it opens a damage opportunity, then damage Šimmumah.
- After defeating her, crush her Ghost to complete the encounter.
Do not begin damage until the mechanic has opened the opportunity. Clear symbol callouts are especially useful here because the encounter asks the team to track several links—Deepsight, symbols, enemies, Vestiges, and deposits—before the boss can be damaged.
