Open three special chests in order during one active dungeon instance; then defeat 400 targets with Gjallarhorn to complete the catalyst. The upgrade, called More Wolves, increases the launcher’s magazine size and improves the missiles created by Wolfpack Round final blows.
What you need before starting
- Gjallarhorn: The catalyst route assumes you already own the Exotic rocket launcher. It is separate from the quest to obtain the weapon.
- Grasp of Avarice access: Bungie lists the dungeon and Gjallarhorn among the rewards requiring the Destiny 2: 30th Anniversary Pack. Bungie’s pack details provide the official access context.

How to get the catalyst from the three chests
In each location, damage the nearby Reaver Vandal to receive the Burdened by Riches engram, then reach and open its associated special chest while carrying the debuff. The guide reports that you must open the chests in order in the same active dungeon instance.
- Opening loot cave: Find the first Reaver Vandal in the cave. Take its engram and reach the first special chest.
- After the barrel room: Find the next Vandal in the flooded room before the vent. Take the engram, continue through the vent, then turn right in the next chamber to find the chest.
- Fallen Shield encounter: After the shield sequence, find the Vandal on the waterfall island. Take the engram, use the launcher to return to the center island, and reach the chest on the central structure.
Solo and fireteam notes
The guide says each fireteam member must personally interact with each chest; one player opening a chest does not advance the sequence for everyone else. If you are playing with others, make sure each person opens all three chests in order. The guide also reports that you can leave after the third chest awards the catalyst; completing the rest of the dungeon is not required for this objective.

How to complete the catalyst
After acquiring it, defeat 400 targets with Gjallarhorn. The objective count is listed in the light.gg item database (accessed 2026). Once the objective is complete, the catalyst is finished and its perk is active.
What the Gjallarhorn catalyst adds
The catalyst grants the More Wolves perk. It increases Gjallarhorn’s magazine size, and Wolfpack Round final blows spawn a faster, more powerful missile at the target’s location. The perk description is recorded in the light.gg item database.

What Bungie’s recent catalyst update means
Bungie’s June 2026 Monument of Triumph announcement describes a broad catalyst update but does not describe a change to Gjallarhorn’s acquisition route. Bungie’s 2025 update notes record a fix related to selecting the Gjallarhorn catalyst for players who already owned it; they do not establish a new chest route.
