The beta began on December 6, 2023, with all activities available; the full release was then only targeted for late January, not guaranteed for that date. Bungie later added web access in March 2024 and said it had removed the beta label in April 2024.
Why Bungie changed the release plan
On November 22, 2023, Bungie said it faced a choice: push Fireteam Finder’s release later or let more players test a public beta. It chose the beta. Bungie explained that social features are difficult to validate at studio scale and need a large player population to test them. The Destiny 2 Dev Team described the decision this way: “We’ve decided it’s better to bring you along for the ride rather than make you wait.” Bungie’s announcement framed this as a change in how the feature would be tested, not a cancellation.

What the raid stress test showed
Bungie reported that 42% of participants cleared their raids during the stress test. It also said newly formed fireteams took seven more minutes on average than pre-made groups. These are Bungie’s reported results from that 2023 test, not independently audited performance figures. Bungie’s December 7 recap provides the results.
Where Fireteam Finder is available
Bungie’s Fireteam Finder Guide describes access through Destiny 2, Bungie.net, and the Destiny Companion App. In the game, open it from the Roster tab or select Find on an activity launch screen. On web or in the app, players can create or join listings and choose settings such as tags, phrases, activity status, application or auto-join preferences, offline-player settings, platform preference, team size, and microphone requirements.
