How to start the binding encounter
Mission Captis is part of Episode: Heresy’s Act 2 quest progression. A walkthrough published March 25, 2025, and updated September 19, 2025, directs players to the mission node in the Director’s The Last City area, near Eris Morn’s apartment and the Heresy activities. Node placement and availability can change with game updates or content access.

- In the Hall of Souls, approach the portal and stand on the central Hive plate to begin the binding.
- Clear the Taken waves. The walkthrough identifies the Resonant Knife as the enemy disrupting the ritual.
- When the eye wall appears, check the Hive symbol displayed above the portal before firing.
The walkthrough advises against lingering area-damage effects during the add waves because they can complicate the eye-wall section. That is guide advice, not a confirmed Bungie restriction.
Which eyes to shoot
Target only the eyes that are both named Eye of Vengeance and firing at you. Do not shoot the other Acolyte’s Eyes. Use the symbol above the portal as the pattern to reproduce; the eye names and firing behavior help distinguish targets from the eyes to leave alone.

If you shoot an incorrect eye, the walkthrough says the eyes respawn. Recheck the displayed pattern and target selection before trying again.
What to expect across all three phases
The encounter repeats the pattern-matching task three times, with Taken waves between phases. The 2025 walkthrough describes the patterns informally as an n-like shape with ellipses, a V (also called “pizza”), and a circle. These are visual orientation hints, not a fixed sequence to follow: shoot the pattern currently shown above the portal.

After matching each symbol, continue clearing the Taken waves and repeat the eye-wall step when it appears again.

A March 25, 2025 Bungie.net Help thread contains one player’s report that the eyes repeatedly exploded and the mission did not progress. A community reply suggested matching the symbol above the enemy by shooting the turrets, then repeating as the symbol moves left and right. This is an individual report and community suggestion, not evidence of a current widespread bug or an official fix.
