Devcom’s 2024 move to the new Confex center at Koelnmesse was intended to give the developer conference room to grow. Its managing director, Stephan Reichart, said the ambition was to become the world’s No. 2 game-development event after GDC—but that was his goal, not an independently verified ranking. The event was renamed gamescom dev in autumn 2025; its official site lists the next edition for August 23–25, 2026, in Cologne.
What is Devcom, and how is it connected to Gamescom?
Devcom launched in 2017 as a business-to-business conference for the game-development industry, held alongside Gamescom in Cologne. The official site says the event was renamed gamescom dev in autumn 2025 to reflect that connection. Its 2026 program is listed to include talks, roundtables, workshops, a business expo, matchmaking, side events and an indie expo. The official gamescom dev site lists the event for August 23–25, 2026, with two conference days.

Why did Devcom move to Confex?
In July 2024, GamesBeat reported that Devcom was moving to Confex, a new conference center on the Koelnmesse grounds in Cologne. Reichart said the previous site had become crowded, with queues and packed stages, and that the new space would provide room for growth. He described the move as a chance to pursue a larger ambition: “We are moving into Europe’s most modern conference center. They just opened it weeks ago. And this really gives us for the first time the opportunity to become No. 2 in the world, after GDC.” That was Reichart’s stated aim in 2024, not a measured global ranking. GamesBeat’s July 19, 2024 report covered the announcement.
How large is gamescom dev?
Published figures show growth, but the sources use different wording and should not be treated as a directly comparable attendance series.

| Edition or measure | Reported figure | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 attendance | 3,400 attendees | GamesBeat, reporting in 2024; contemporaneous figure, not described as independently audited. |
| 2023 program, as described in 2024 | 250 speakers and more than 160 sessions | GamesBeat’s 2024 report about the prior-year edition. |
| 2024 plan | 15 stages and about 200 sessions | Planned figures reported by GamesBeat in 2024. |
| 2024 registered participation | More than 5,000 participants from 83 countries | Reported by game – The German Games Industry Association in its 2025 annual report; the measure is registered participants. |
| 2024 scholarship program | Over 200 recipients from underrepresented communities | Reported by game – The German Games Industry Association in its 2025 annual report. |
GamesBeat also reported that Devcom sought to grow its audience by 30 percent in 2024. That was a target, not a final attendance figure. Its 2024 coverage described mixers, an expo area, matchmaking through the Swapcard event app and a scholarship program as parts of the event’s offer. The separate annual-report figure of more than 5,000 registered participants gives a later measure for that edition, but it does not make the 2023 and 2024 figures identical in definition.
What does the Confex venue offer?
The official gamescom dev venue page identifies the 2026 location as the Confex Center at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. It describes a two-level facility with 22 conference rooms ranging from 27 to 205 square meters, plus a hall that can be divided into three sections and has a total capacity of 4,300 people. The venue page also says the organizer secured discounted hotel rates near the event for attendees; it does not state current rates.

Is gamescom dev the world’s second-largest game-development event?
The available figures do not establish that ranking. Reichart’s No. 2 statement was an ambition attached to the 2024 venue move. A defensible comparison with GDC would require comparable dated counts and definitions, as well as consideration of audience, program, business matchmaking, location and event format. The figures above show the scale and expansion Devcom reported around the move, but they do not supply a consistent dataset for ranking it against GDC or other conferences.
