How to assign an emote to the wheel
- Open the Action Wheel: press E on keyboard or Up on the controller D-pad. These are reported defaults, not guaranteed bindings if you have remapped controls. Blizzard forum guidance and PC Gamer’s emote-wheel guide describe these inputs.
- Select Customize to view the available emotes and wheel slots.
- Choose the wheel slot you want to change, then select the emote to assign. If a save option appears, save your changes before leaving the customization screen, as advised in the Blizzard forum answer.
- Reopen the Action Wheel and select the assigned emote to use it.
How to open and navigate the wheel

The wheel offers three quick-access wheels that can be cycled through, according to PC Gamer. If an emote is not on the currently visible wheel, use Customize to assign it to a slot; it may also be on another quick-access wheel.

Where is the Cheer emote?
If you need to Cheer for a quest or another objective, open Customize and look through the emote list. Assign Cheer to a wheel slot, save if prompted, then reopen the Action Wheel and select it. This is the same assignment process as for other emotes.

The inputs above are reported defaults, not a definitive control chart for every platform or setup. Blizzard says keyboard-and-mouse and controller inputs can be remapped in its accessibility overview. Check the in-game Controls settings for the current Action Wheel binding and use the displayed input if yours differs.

Action Wheel activation accessibility option
Blizzard’s accessibility overview also describes Skill Toggle and Action Wheel Activation. Enabling it can make an Action Wheel choice that would otherwise require holding an input work as a toggle instead. It changes the interaction behavior; it does not change how you assign an emote to a slot.
