Current 3.2.2 drop locations and upgrade costs for Infernal Compasses could not be verified in the official patch notes reviewed. The newest notes located are for build 73764, patch 3.2.2, dated September 30, 2026, and do not document Compass drops or Abyssal Scroll upgrades. The concrete routes and upgrade details below are therefore labeled by the older version or source that established them, rather than presented as confirmed current instructions.
What Infernal Compasses do
Infernal Compasses are keys used to enter Infernal Hordes. Blizzard’s original Season of the Infernal Hordes guide describes Compass tiers as setting the activity’s difficulty and rewards. The guide’s general explanation remains useful, but its specific farming routes and upgrade information are from the 2024 season and are not verified for patch 3.2.2.

Where to farm Infernal Compasses
No current patch 3.2.2 route or drop chance is established by the official notes reviewed. The older official sources describe the following historical methods; treat them as version-specific, not as a present-day farming checklist.
Original Season of the Infernal Hordes routes (2024)
Blizzard’s 2024 seasonal guide listed Helltide Chests of Mystery, Chests of Steel, and Doomsayers as Compass sources. It also said a Whisper Cache had a 75% chance to drop a Compass. The guide noted higher-tier Compasses from Nightmare Dungeons and The Pit. Those locations and the 75% figure describe the original seasonal system, not verified 3.2.2 odds.

Patch 2.1 changes (2025)
Patch 2.1 changed the relative acquisition chances: it increased Compass chances from Greater Helltide Chests and reduced them from Whispers, Nightmare Dungeons, Lesser Helltide Chests, and The Pit. The notes do not provide current drop rates in the cited description, so these changes do not support ranking today’s routes by efficiency.
Patch 2.1 also added a Collection Keys Whisper Cache containing three Infernal Compasses and three Nightmare Dungeon Sigils. That is the cache’s contents as described for patch 2.1; it is not a statement of current availability or a drop-rate guarantee.

Patch 2.0 crafting and drop rule (2024)
Patch 2.0 said Infernal Compasses could no longer be crafted and would instead be rare drops found only in Torment difficulties. This superseded crafting instructions in the earlier seasonal guide at that time. The 2.0 rule is historical and should not be assumed to remain unchanged in 3.2.2.

In Blizzard’s Season 5 PTR guide, Abyssal Scrolls were the material used to raise a Compass’s tier. The PTR description said Compasses dropped at tiers I–III and Scrolls could raise them as high as tier VIII. It also described Scrolls as usable without returning to town.

This is PTR-era design information, not confirmed live guidance for patch 3.2.2. The sources reviewed do not establish where to get Abyssal Scrolls now, the current cost per upgrade, or the current maximum Compass tier. Check the in-game Compass and Scroll tooltips before spending materials or planning a run.
Quick Recap
How to plan runs without relying on outdated drop rates
- Use the current in-game tooltip or a current official announcement to confirm whether a proposed activity awards Compasses directly.
- Check the Compass tier and the difficulty requirements shown in-game before committing to a run.
- Do not use the historical 75% Whisper Cache figure or the patch 2.1 relative chance changes as current probabilities.
- Before upgrading, confirm the current Scroll requirement and cost in-game; the PTR source does not establish present-day costs.
