Sony canceled that plan in May 2024. Regional restrictions were later reported to have eased, but the historical figure of 177 affected countries and territories is not a current availability list. A separate UK Steam listing issue reported in September 2026 is being handled with Valve, according to Sony.
Why was Helldivers 2 removed from Steam in some countries?
Helldivers 2 launched for PS5 and PC on February 8, 2024. In May, Sony announced a plan to require PC players on Steam to link a PSN account. The official community FAQ set May 6 as the deadline for new players and June 4 for existing players. Sony announced on May 6 that the account-linking update would not move forward. Sony’s community announcement documented both the proposed requirement and its cancellation.

The plan collided with regional availability: PSN was not available in every country or territory where the game had been sold on Steam. Contemporary coverage reported that the game was delisted in 177 countries and territories following the account-linking controversy. That number describes the scope reported in 2024, not the number of places where the game is blocked today. PC Gamer’s 2024 report gives the historical context.
What changed after Sony canceled the PSN-linking plan?
The cancellation removed the proposed account-linking deadline, but it did not establish a permanent, comprehensive regional sales list. In June 2025, PC Gamer reported that restrictions on Helldivers 2 and several other Sony PC games had been removed, based on changes to regional Steam listings it observed. The report said Sony had not publicly commented on those changes. The 2025 report is evidence of changes in availability, not confirmation that every affected region was restored.

The sources available do not establish a current, exhaustive country-by-country Steam availability list. The 2024 figure should not be used to infer which countries can buy the game now, nor should the 2025 changes be read as proof that all regional restrictions have ended. Availability depends on the storefront and country; check the game’s Steam page while signed in to the relevant country’s store before relying on a purchase claim.
Why is Helldivers 2 unavailable on Steam in the UK?
The UK issue reported in September 2026 is separate from the 2024 PSN-related delisting. VGC reported that Helldivers 2 and other Sony-published PC games had disappeared from the UK Steam store. Sony told VGC: “We are aware of an issue affecting the availability of select titles on Steam in the UK,” adding, “We are working with Valve to address the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.” VGC reported that existing owners could still play. VGC’s September 16, 2026 report attributes the explanation to a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson.

PlayStation’s UK product page currently lists PC and directs PC buyers to Steam, alongside PS5 and Xbox options. That storefront page is not a live test of UK Steam checkout, and it does not prove availability in other countries. The UK price shown there is time-sensitive. Check the UK PlayStation product page, then verify the actual Steam listing for your own account and region.

A store delisting concerns new purchases; it does not automatically mean an existing copy has stopped launching. In the specific UK situation reported in September 2026, VGC said current owners could still play. That report does not establish the status of existing copies in every other region. If you already own the game, check your Steam Library and launch it rather than treating a missing store page as proof that access has been revoked.

What should you check before choosing a platform?
- For a new Steam purchase: Open the listing in the Steam store for your country and confirm that the purchase button and checkout are available. Regional access can differ.
- If you already own it on Steam: Check your Library. The 2026 UK report distinguished the store listing issue from play access for existing owners.
- If you are considering PS5 or Xbox: PlayStation’s UK page presents PS5, PC, and Xbox routes, but regional availability varies. A PS5 purchase is an alternative for someone with access to that platform; it does not restore a Steam listing or transfer a Steam copy.
