Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If Diablo IV is lagging on PS5, first check PlayStation Network status, restart the console, run the PS5 connection test, and compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if you can. These checks can help isolate a local connection problem, but they do not guarantee a fix or prove that Blizzard’s game services are working normally.
Identify what “lag” looks like
Before changing settings, pin down the symptom. In Diablo IV, lag may mean your character snaps backward (rubber-banding), actions take time to register, you disconnect, or the picture stutters or freezes. Those experiences are not interchangeable: connection checks are most relevant to delayed actions, rubber-banding and drops, while visual stutter may have a different cause.
Note when it begins, whether it follows a zone transition or happens at particular times, whether other games or online services are affected, and whether your PS5 is using Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Blizzard asks players seeking help to describe what they were doing, what the issue looks like, any error messages, their console, and troubleshooting already attempted. Blizzard’s support forums are one place to consult for current known issues and guidance.
Work through the PS5 connection checks
PlayStation’s general server-connectivity guidance is useful for checking your setup, though it is not a Diablo IV-specific diagnosis. Follow these steps in order and see whether the symptom changes.

- Check PlayStation Network status. Visit the PlayStation service-status page. Status can change, so check the live page rather than assuming PSN is either up or down.
- Restart the PS5. PlayStation recommends restarting the console as part of its connectivity troubleshooting.
- Run the built-in connection test. On PS5, open Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection and check whether the console reports a successful connection.
- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if practical. Connect the PS5 to the router with an Ethernet cable and try to reproduce the problem under comparable conditions. PlayStation recommends a wired connection if possible. A change may indicate that Wi-Fi matters in your setup, but it cannot establish that the game’s servers or route are healthy.
- Power-cycle the router. Turn it off, wait at least five minutes, then restart it, following PlayStation’s PS5 connectivity guidance.
Use the results to narrow down the next step
- Other devices or games also lose connectivity: the issue may involve your home connection. Check whether the router connection is stable and contact your internet service provider if the problem continues.
- Ethernet improves the experience: the wireless segment may be contributing in your setup. Treat this as a useful comparison, not proof of a permanent fix or of the original cause.
- Other online services work, but Diablo IV does not: record the details and check Blizzard’s current known issues and support resources. That pattern alone does not prove Blizzard’s servers are responsible.
- The main symptom is visual stutter or freezing: describe it separately from rubber-banding or disconnections when seeking help; a connection test by itself may not explain a visual performance problem.
Record the problem before asking for help
A precise report is more useful than saying only that the game is “lagging.” Write down the symptom, when it occurred, what you were doing or which zone you were in, any error message, whether the PS5 used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether other services were affected, and which steps you tried. Blizzard’s support guidance asks players to provide details like these.
Blizzard’s forum guidance says to run connection tests while a connection or installation problem is actively happening. Its WinMTR instruction is general technical-support material, not a PS5-native test procedure; do not treat a route test or forum thread as proof that a particular server hop caused your lag. Check Blizzard’s current support and known-issue discussions before escalating.

What community reports and patch notes can—and cannot—tell you
Players have described PS5 rubber-banding and perceived changes by time of day or region. Those are individual reports, not evidence of a universal server-congestion problem or a reliable region-switching workaround. If you suspect a pattern, record the time and circumstances so support can assess it.
Blizzard’s Diablo IV patch notes show that platform-specific stability updates have occurred: the 2.1 notes list “Various stability improvements” for PlayStation 5 build 63220 on March 20, 2025. That historical change does not establish that a current lag issue is fixed. Check current notices for updates that match your version and symptom.
