These reversible checks can help isolate the cause, but no single setting is established as a fix for every setup.
First, find out whether the flicker is limited to Diablo IV
Check the PS5 home screen, another game, and a video app, then compare what you see in Diablo IV. Note whether the symptom is white flashing, brightness changes, washed-out graphics, or a brief flicker around loading screens. These are descriptions players have used in forum posts, not verified diagnoses.
- Only Diablo IV appears affected: start with a game restart and reversible video-output tests.
- Other games, apps, or the PS5 interface also flicker: investigate the console-to-display connection and display before treating the issue as game-specific.
Players have posted about varied visual problems on PS5 in Blizzard’s forums, including white flashing and brightness changes. Reports span different setups and dates from 2023 to 2025; they do not establish one shared cause or show that VRR or a particular update is responsible. Blizzard forum reports
Try the PS5 Video Transfer Rate setting
PlayStation Support’s PS5 resolution guide recommends this setting when the screen flickers: “If you experience flickering on the screen, try selecting -1 or -2 to limit output.” The setting limits some video-output modes, so a more stable picture may come with a trade-off in output options. - Open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output on the PS5.
- Select Video Transfer Rate and change it from Auto to -1.
- Check Diablo IV and other affected content for picture stability and any change to the output you want.
- If flickering continues, test -2 in the same way.
- If neither value helps, or the reduced output options are unsuitable, return the setting to Auto.
Test VRR only as a reversible comparison
If Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is enabled, temporarily turn it off and compare the same scene or activity in Diablo IV. Some players have reported improvement after disabling VRR, but forum posts do not confirm it as a reliable fix or establish VRR as the cause. Turn it back on if the comparison makes no difference or you prefer to use it.
Restart and check for updates
Restart Diablo IV and the PS5, then check whether updates are available for the game, PS5 system software, and your TV or monitor. Blizzard’s Patch 2.1 notes list “Various stability improvements” for PS5 in an entry dated March 20, 2025, but do not identify a screen-flicker fix. Blizzard’s Diablo IV patch notes

If the PS5 flickers beyond Diablo IV, check the display path
When the PS5 home screen or other content is affected too, use PlayStation’s general picture-troubleshooting steps to test the connection between console and display. Change one thing at a time so you can tell which test, if any, changes the symptom. PlayStation’s picture and sound troubleshooting guide
- Connect the PS5 directly to the TV or monitor, temporarily bypassing a receiver, soundbar, capture device, or other intermediary.
- Try another HDMI port on the display.
- Check for and install available display firmware updates, following the display maker’s instructions.
- Test another HDMI cable if the connection tests suggest a cable or signal-path problem. PlayStation recommends using the included cable and testing another cable for picture problems; a replacement cable is not a Diablo IV-specific fix.
When to contact support
If the problem persists across games and apps after testing direct connection, another port, and another cable, contact PlayStation Repairs or support. If the symptoms point to the TV or monitor rather than the PS5, contact its manufacturer. Do not disassemble the console or display as a troubleshooting step.
