Diablo IV’s Season of the Construct began on January 23, 2024, introducing the Seneschal, a configurable in-game robotic companion, alongside quality-of-life changes such as near-continuous Helltides and WASD movement on PC. Season 3 is now historical content; Blizzard’s current patch page records version 3.2.2 on September 30, 2026. Blizzard announced the season’s launch and features, while its patch page reflects later updates.

What Season 3 added

Season of the Construct revolved around Zoltun Kulle’s Loom, an ancient technology beneath Kehjistan that Malphas had corrupted. Ayuzhan, Kulle’s former companion, guided players through the seasonal questline and the new Vault dungeons, with the story culminating in a confrontation with Malphas. The Gatehall served as the season’s hub.

At the time, Blizzard said players needed a new character on the Seasonal Realm and had to complete the main campaign to begin the seasonal questline. Players who had completed the prologue could choose to skip the campaign.

How the Seneschal companion worked

The “custom robot” in the season’s pitch was the Seneschal, an in-game construct—not a real-world robot or separate product. It followed the player character for the duration of the season. Players configured its attacks with Governing Stones and modified those skills with Tuning Stones, adding effects such as different damage types, projectiles, defense, or utility.

  • Diablo IV is the next-gen action RPG experience with endless evil to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish Dungeons, and legendary loot.
  • Embark on the campaign solo or with friends, meeting memorable characters through beautifully dark settings and a gripping story, or explore an expansive end game and shared world where players can meet in towns to trade, team up to battle World Bosses, or descend into PVP zones to test their skills against other players - no lobbies necessary - with cross-play and cross-progression on all available platforms.

Blizzard’s season overview listed 12 Governing Stones and 27 Tuning Stones. A player could equip two Governing Stones and six Tuning Stones, with three Tuning Stones augmenting each attack. The stones gave players a way to tailor the companion’s combat role rather than choose from separate permanent companions.

Vaults, Arcane Tremors, and the seasonal loop

Vaults were trap-filled dungeons populated by Constructs, a new monster family. Players could spend Pearls of Warding to enter with Zoltun’s Warding, a layered protection that decreased when hazards hit. Keeping enough protection through a Vault enabled access to a Wardwoven Chest, which Blizzard said had a higher chance of Legendary items.

Nightmare Vaults unlocked at World Tier III. Arcane Tremors provided a related overworld activity and materials used to craft stones. Together, the Loom storyline, Vault runs, the companion’s stone progression, and Tremors formed the season’s main play loop.

Quality-of-life changes Blizzard announced

Blizzard’s Season of the Construct announcement highlighted several usability changes. It was not presented as a complete inventory of every change in patch 1.3.0.

  • Near-continuous Helltides: Helltides were scheduled to run almost constantly, with five minutes of downtime each hour.
  • WASD movement on PC: PC players could move with the W, A, S, and D keys instead of relying only on mouse movement.
  • An extra Stash Tab: Players could purchase an additional tab at a capital-city Stash.
  • Skill-tree reallocation: Blizzard listed improvements to reallocating skills.
  • Gold trading: The gold-trading interface was also slated for improvement.
  • Beast in the Ice materials: Blizzard said it was improving rates for earning items needed to summon the Beast in the Ice.

The announcement’s Helltide schedule and feature list describe what Blizzard said was changing for the season, rather than a promise that the full set of patch changes was limited to these items. Blizzard’s season announcement included additional changes without itemizing all of them.

Launch patch and early adjustments

Blizzard’s patch archive dates version 1.3.0, build 49213, to January 23, 2024, across platforms. In the January 26, 2024 version 1.3.0a notes, Blizzard said it had heard concerns about the companion’s strength: “We’ve received feedback that the Seneschal does not feel powerful.”

The follow-up included more ways to earn stones, lower stone-leveling requirements, and revisions to Vault access, hazards, and rewards. Later season-era notes in the archive also record Seneschal balance adjustments and fixes involving stone tooltips, status effects, damage interactions, and quest progression. These are historical tuning notes, not a description of the companion’s present-day balance.

Blizzard’s patch archive covers versions 1.3 through 1.5, making it useful for tracing Season 3 follow-up changes. The Gauntlet, a rotating fixed dungeon with leaderboards and a Hall of the Ancients, was announced as a later-season addition; it did not launch alongside the season on January 23.
