Diablo IV Season 8: Belial’s Return began on April 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. PDT. Before launch, Blizzard’s patch notes recorded post-PTR changes across classes, Runewords and seasonal Boss Powers; a separate April 28 report from Wowhead highlighted late Rushing Claw adjustments and new Unique-item farming routes. These are launch-era details for patch 2.2.0, not current live-game guidance.
Which Season 8 patch notes describe the launch changes?
Blizzard identifies the all-platform launch update as patch 2.2.0, Build #64271, dated April 29, 2025. Its maintained patch-note page includes changes and fixes added after launch, so the relevant record for the day-one update is the page’s 2.2.0 section. Blizzard says changes made after the Public Test Realm (PTR) concluded are highlighted there. Read Blizzard’s patch notes.

That official post-PTR list covers more than a single last-minute tweak. It includes class and item balance, Runeword adjustments, seasonal Boss Power changes and fixes. For example, Blizzard raised Spiritborn Rushing Claw damage from 60% to 80%, increased Sepazontec damage from 50–100% to 80–130%, and increased Sunbird’s Gorget damage from 150–300% to 200–400%. The Gorget also gained an effect that makes Storm Feathers count as a Jaguar Skill.
What did the late Rushing Claw change do?
In an April 28, 2025 report, Wowhead described a more specific late adjustment: Rushing Claw’s maximum charges fell from 20 to 12, while damage per charge increased from 25% to 50%. Casting consumes all charges and hits a larger area. Read Wowhead’s report.

Keep that report separate from Blizzard’s post-PTR entry, which compares overall Rushing Claw damage at 60% before the change and 80% afterward. The figures describe different comparisons; combining them as if they were one damage adjustment would be misleading.
What else changed between the PTR and launch?
Blizzard’s list mixes buffs, nerfs and mechanical changes. These examples show why it is more accurate to describe the update as a broad balance pass than as a simple set of buffs or nerfs.

Runewords
- Xan’s duration increased from 0.25 to 0.35 seconds. Its overflow effect changed from increasing damage to increasing duration.
- Tec damage decreased from 1,000% to 700%.
Seasonal Boss Powers
Several powers were reduced or reshaped. Andariel’s Flaming Skull damage dropped from 1,800% to 450%, while Belial’s Eye Beams damage fell from 1,750% to 438%. Blizzard also adjusted aspects such as duration, damage reduction and beam count. Other powers received increases or trigger changes, so those two reductions do not represent the full set of Boss Power updates.
Barbarian
Whirlwind damage increased from 32% to 52%, Furious Whirlwind’s bleed option was strengthened, and several Fury costs were reduced. In the other direction, Executioner’s Aspect damage per 100 Strength fell from 15% to 5%, with a 200% cap.

Blizzard explained that Earthquake builds had remained ahead of other Barbarian builds during the PTR, even after earlier adjustments. Its developer note said: “Earthquakes maintained a clear advantage over other builds in the PTR, even after updates meant to bring them in line with other builds. These changes aim to return them to the levels we want and make room for more Barbarian builds to enter the spotlight.”
On Whirlwind, Blizzard said: “We recognized that none of the options were previously attractive for a pure whirlwind build so we’ve greatly adjusted the bleed option to compensate as a powerful second choice.” Both statements appear in Blizzard’s official patch notes.

Druid
The launch notes also include Druid skill, passive and item changes. One example: Ravens’ passive damage increased from 31% to 90%.

Wowhead’s April 28 report listed the following Lair Boss Hoards as new higher-chance locations for six Uniques. Treat these as launch-era target-farming routes, not confirmation of current drop locations. An asterisk marks a route Wowhead listed as available only to Vessel of Hatred owners.

Use the figures to understand what Blizzard changed for Season 8’s launch, or to interpret builds and guides written for patch 2.2.0. They do not establish present-day skill values, build strength or Unique drop routes. For current play, check current patch notes and up-to-date game information rather than relying on a 2025 launch snapshot.
