Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred released on October 8, 2024. Blizzard announced that date for the game’s first expansion, later confirming a worldwide October 8 release; it is a past release date, not an upcoming launch. The expansion requires the Diablo IV base game.
When did Vessel of Hatred release?
Blizzard announced October 8, 2024 as the release date for Vessel of Hatred, then reiterated that it was a worldwide release date in an August 2024 update. Xbox Wire’s launch-day guide, published October 8, confirmed the expansion was out that day. Blizzard’s June 2024 announcement · Blizzard’s Gamescom update · Xbox Wire’s launch guide
What did the expansion add?
Vessel of Hatred continues Neyrelle’s story and the campaign’s conflict involving Mephisto, moving the action into Nahantu. It also introduced the Spiritborn class. Blizzard’s announcements highlighted new towns, dungeons and Strongholds in the region, along with recruitable Mercenaries and updates to base-game systems.
Two highlighted activities
- Dark Citadel: a cooperative PvE endgame experience.
- Kurast Undercity: a multistage dungeon built around a time attack.
What do you need to play it?
The expansion requires the Diablo IV base game. Blizzard’s pre-purchase announcement named Battle.net, PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store and Steam as digital purchase routes. Xbox’s listing also specifies a Battle.net account and an internet connection.

Blizzard’s launch-preparation information said Steam users could download the update when it went live on October 7 at 4 p.m. in the stated launch-time context. That storefront timing does not replace the announced worldwide calendar date of October 8; a local clock can show the prior date depending on time zone.
