Spiritborn is a playable class introduced in Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred. It draws on four Spirit Guardians—Jaguar, Gorilla, Eagle, and Centipede—and the Spirit Hall lets you combine their bonuses. The class is tied to the expansion, and the Diablo IV base game is required. This overview reflects Blizzard’s class reveal and launch guide, not firsthand gameplay; the reveal’s details were described as subject to change.
What is the Spiritborn class?
Spiritborn is a new class in the Diablo series, rooted in the Nahantu setting and introduced with Vessel of Hatred. Blizzard describes its combat fantasy as agile, close-range, hand-to-hand fighting, with three-hit combos, acrobatic movement, spirit energy, and a glaive. Those are the publisher’s descriptions of the class, rather than an independent assessment of how it plays.

The defining idea is channeling one or more of four Spirit Guardians. Their identities offer different thematic directions, but Blizzard’s reveal is not evidence of a current ranking or of which Guardian performs best in any activity.

| Guardian | Reveal-era identity | What that suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Jaguar (Rezoka) | Relentless speed and aggression | An aggressive, fast-attacking fantasy. |
| Gorilla (Wumba) | Resilience and retaliation | A defensive identity centered on withstanding pressure and striking back. |
| Eagle (Kwatli) | Precision, movement speed, and ranged extensions | A mobile style built around accurate attacks and reach. |
| Centipede (Balazan) | Poison damage, draining, and crowd control | A damage-over-time and enemy-disruption theme. |
These distinctions come from Blizzard’s reveal, published July 18, 2024. They describe intended Guardian identities, not current damage, survivability, endgame performance, or popularity.

How the Spirit Hall shapes a Spiritborn build
Blizzard’s reveal describes the Spirit Hall as a way to combine Guardian bonuses. The class quest, “Sacred Hunt,” starts at level 15 and unlocks the system. A player chooses one primary Guardian for its bonus, and that primary Guardian’s Spirit tag applies to all skills. At level 30, the player can choose a secondary Guardian bonus; it may come from the same Guardian or a different one.
Blizzard’s example pairs Gorilla and Jaguar, combining defensive and offensive effects. The system therefore lets a Spiritborn draw on more than one Guardian identity rather than locking the entire character into a single theme. Exact details were presented in the 2024 reveal as works in progress and subject to change, so they should not be treated as current build instructions.

Where Vessel of Hatred fits in the story
The expansion’s story follows directly after Diablo IV’s main campaign. Blizzard’s launch guide describes Neyrelle being pursued into Nahantu as Mephisto’s influence drives the threat. Blizzard recommends finishing the base campaign for the full story experience, while also documenting a campaign-skip option for a new character who wants to begin the expansion sooner. The guide does not make the skip the recommended choice for players seeking the complete narrative.

Blizzard’s class reveal is useful for understanding Spiritborn’s setting, Guardian themes, and announced Spirit Hall structure. It is an early look, however, and explicitly says details were subject to change. The launch guide is also from 2024. Neither source establishes current optimal builds, balance, skill values, or which Guardian is strongest. For those questions, check current in-game information rather than relying on reveal-era numbers or assumptions.
