Diablo II: Resurrected is getting a major update called Reign of the Warlock, which Blizzard describes as adding the first new playable class to Diablo II in 25 years. The Warlock is built around three approaches—controlling demons, manipulating weapons, and attacking with hellfire and void magic—and the update also changes Terror Zones and adds collection and inventory features. Game Pass includes the base game, not the update.
What is the new Warlock class in Diablo 2?
The Warlock is a new playable class for Diablo II: Resurrected. Blizzard groups its skills into three trees: Demonic Binding, Eldritch Weapons, and Arts of Chaos. The descriptions below reflect Blizzard’s announced mechanics, not independent balance or performance testing.
Demonic Binding: summon, bind, or consume demons
This tree lets the Warlock summon Goatmen, Tainted, and Defilers, then strengthen them. The class can also bind demons encountered in combat and consume a bound demon to augment the Warlock. That gives the tree both a summon-focused option and a way to turn an enemy into a temporary resource.
Eldritch Weapons: change how weapons work
Eldritch skills apply magical effects to weapons, create weapon duplicates, or let the Warlock throw weapons. Blizzard also describes a passive that allows the class to wield a two-handed weapon in one hand while equipping an off-hand item.

The chaos tree uses hellfire and void magic. Its announced skills include Miasma, Apocalypse, and the Abyss, giving the Warlock a spell-focused route alongside demon control and weapon skills.
What does Reign of the Warlock add beyond the class?
Blizzard’s update announcement describes changes to Terror Zones, a new Colossal Ancients encounter, and new tracking and inventory tools.
Rank #2
Player-directed Terror Zones
Players can earn consumables that let them choose which Act becomes terrorized. Terror Zones feature stronger enemies and greater rewards, and their rotation is shortened from one hour to 30 minutes.
The Colossal Ancients encounter
Defeating a terrorized Act boss can yield a statue. Statues are used to open the Colossal Ancients encounter, adding a new destination to the Terror Zone progression.
Rank #3
- Exclusive Red with Black Smoke Marble 2x LP Vinyl Record
Chronicle collection tracker
The Chronicle tracks collected unique items, sets, and runewords, including where and when each was found. It gives collectors an in-game record of discoveries rather than requiring them to track those finds separately.
Stash and loot management
The update adds a built-in loot filter. On PC, players can share community filters. Stash changes include stacking and dedicated tabs for materials, gems, runes, and consumables. Purchasing the update adds two stash tabs and two character slots.
Rank #4
- The Diablo Prime Evil Collection includes Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo III, the Reaper of Souls expansion which includes Act V, Adventure Mode and the Crusader class, and the Rise of the Necromancer pack, with the Necromancer class, and additional cosmetic items. This collection also includes the Mephisto pet and the fearsome wings, Hatred’s Grasp, for Diablo III.

What Blizzard’s announcement does—and doesn’t—establish
Blizzard calls this a major update and describes the Warlock as the first new playable class in Diablo II in 25 years. That is the publisher’s framing of the release; the announcement does not provide independent testing of class balance, build strength, or performance. It also describes digital access routes, but does not establish a physical edition or a physical product needed to play.
