At launch in August 2024, EA described Madden NFL 25 Ultimate Team as a mix of AI-driven Solo Seasons, escalating solo challenges, ranked head-to-head play, and competitive weekly events. The headline addition was Solo Seasons: an AI-opponent season that followed the H2H format through playoffs and a Super Bowl. These are launch-era feature descriptions, not confirmation that Madden NFL 25 events or online services remain available today.
What was new in Ultimate Team?
EA’s launch notes framed Madden NFL 25 Ultimate Team around more lineup customization, new challenge types, Solo Seasons, regular playbook content, refreshed rewards, and new 6v6 events. The most clearly explained new solo mode was Solo Seasons, while the broader mode lineup also covered ranked competition and shorter challenges.

Solo Seasons: an AI season with playoffs
EA said Solo Seasons would mirror the structure of Online H2H Seasons, with players facing AI opponents through a season, playoffs, and a Super Bowl. EA also described division advancement and increasing difficulty as players won. The pitch was an offline-friendly progression option between content drops, rather than a claim about present-day service availability. EA’s August 16, 2024 launch notes put it this way: “The all-new Solo Seasons mimics our ‘Online H2H Seasons’ structure where you will play through a season to make the playoffs and win a Super Bowl – all against AI opponents.”
Epic Challenges and Gridiron Forge
For shorter solo sessions, Epic Challenges were described as increasingly difficult tasks with distinctive twists. Gridiron Forge returned as a series of shorter challenges that also ramped up in difficulty. These formats offered structured challenges distinct from a full season run.

How did the competitive modes work at launch?
EA’s announced lineup paired longer-term ranked progression with limited-game competitive events. The rules below are what EA described for launch in 2024; they should not be read as verified current rules.
| Mode | Launch-era format EA described | What it emphasized |
|---|---|---|
| Ranked H2H | Wins awarded rank points, allowing players to climb divisions. | Longer-term division progression and higher-tier rewards. |
| Champs | Up to 20 games per week; EA said 16 wins could earn Gauntlet entry. | A weekly competitive target and a route into Gauntlet. |
| Weekend Gauntlet | A weekend run of up to 10 wins, ending after two losses. | A high-stakes competitive run with a defined loss limit. |
EA also listed Solo Battles and online Squads for 2v2 or 3v3, alongside an Ultimate Team Practice Mode. Together, those options meant the announced mode mix was not limited to solo challenges or one-on-one ranked matches.
What other launch details did EA announce?
- Eight Ultimate Team seasons: EA’s 2024 notes called this the biggest Ultimate Team season in Madden NFL history and said eight seasons were planned for Madden NFL 25. This is a launch-year announcement, not a statement that all eight seasons are active now.
- More than 900 new plays: EA announced this as a game-wide Madden NFL 25 playbook figure, not as a count of Ultimate Team-only content.
EA’s August 16, 2024 release announcement also listed Madden NFL 25 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. That same announcement says BOOM Tech and the updated features it describes are limited to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; the platform restriction should not be expanded to every Ultimate Team detail without a feature-specific note.
