Reign of the Warlock adds a new class and a slate of endgame and quality-of-life features to Diablo II: Resurrected. For lapsed players, it offers a different way to revisit the remastered game—but it is a separate expansion, not new content for the original 2000 release.

What is the new Warlock class in Diablo 2?

The Warlock is a playable class added by Reign of the Warlock, a DLC expansion for Diablo II: Resurrected. Blizzard describes it as the first new playable class in Diablo II in 25 years. Its concept is a dark scholar who binds demons and wields infernal power. Blizzard outlines three approaches to the class:

Demonic binding

Summon Goatmen, Tainted, or Defilers to fight beside you. The Warlock can also consume a bound demon, draining its life force to strengthen the Warlock’s own abilities.

Eldritch weapons

Infuse weapons with hexes, make weapon duplicates, or throw weapons. Blizzard also describes a passive that lets the Warlock use a two-handed weapon and an offhand item at the same time.

Diablo II: Resurrected – Base Game 1P - Xbox [Digital Code]
  • Diablo II: Resurrected breathes new life into Blizzard Entertainment’s acclaimed ARPG and its expansion, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, from beginning to end. Return to fight for Sanctuary and discover the fate of the mysterious Dark Wanderer rebuilt in all-new 3D graphics, brand-new cinematics, remastered audio… and the same classic Diablo II gameplay you remember.

Chaos magic

Use hellfire and void in ranged attacks, including Miasma, Apocalypse, and the Abyss.

These are Blizzard’s descriptions of the class’s design, not evidence that a particular approach is strongest or that the class is balanced in every activity.

Diablo II: Resurrected – Prime Evil Collection 1P - Xbox [Digital Code]
  • The Diablo Prime Evil Collection includes Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo III, the Reaper of Souls expansion which includes Act V, Adventure Mode and the Crusader class, and the Rise of the Necromancer pack, with the Necromancer class, and additional cosmetic items. This collection also includes the Mephisto pet and the fearsome wings, Hatred’s Grasp, for Diablo III.

What else does Reign of the Warlock add?

The expansion reaches beyond the new class, adding endgame encounters and systems for players who want more to do with their characters.

  • Terror Zone updates: choose Terror Zones with consumables, and face strengthened zones.
  • Heralds of Terror: new threats appear in Hell difficulty.
  • Colossal Ancients: an encounter unlocked by combining statues dropped by terrorized Act bosses.
  • Warlock gear and new runewords: grimoires and equipment for the class, alongside new runewords.
  • Chronicle: an item tracker for recording finds.
  • Loot filter: a built-in way to filter drops.
  • More storage: dedicated stash tabs for materials, gems, runes, and consumables, plus two additional stash tabs and two character slots.

Is Reign of the Warlock included with Diablo 2 Resurrected?

No. Blizzard sells Reign of the Warlock as a separate DLC for existing owners. Its expansion announcement also describes the Infernal Edition, which bundles the base game and DLC. Blizzard says the base game is available to Xbox Game Pass members, but the Warlock DLC is not included with Game Pass. Steam players can access the Infernal Edition.

The US Xbox Store listing, checked October 8, 2026, showed a price of $24.99 and a release date of February 11, 2026. That is a US storefront price, not a guaranteed price elsewhere or a promise that the listing remains unchanged. The listing says the add-on requires Diablo II: Resurrected and supports Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Check your platform’s regional store for current availability and price.

Do I need to buy Diablo II: Resurrected before the Warlock DLC?

You need the base game to use the DLC. If you already own Diablo II: Resurrected, Blizzard says you can buy the expansion separately. If you do not own it, the Infernal Edition is the bundle that includes both the game and Reign of the Warlock. Game Pass availability of the base game does not include the Warlock DLC.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition - PlayStation 4
  • For PlayStation owners, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition offers 'The Last of Us' Nephalem Rift, a randomized dungeon swarming with Stalkers, Clickers and Bloaters in hand-picked environments with a unique 'The Last of Us' yellow spore effect. Also included is the 'Guise of the Colossi' Unique Armor; a unique transmogrification plan that unlocks six armors that are inspired by 'Shadow of the Colossus' and work for all classes.
  • This Ultimate Evil Edition contains both Diablo III and the Reaper of Souls expansion set, together in one definitive volume.
  • Play solo or form a party of up to four other heroes.

Diablo II: Resurrected is the remaster of Diablo II and Lord of Destruction. Blizzard’s 2021 launch announcement described upgraded visuals and audio alongside the original hack-and-slash gameplay and quality-of-life changes. The announcement listed Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch at launch; it does not establish current availability for every edition or region. The Warlock expansion belongs to the remaster, not the original 2000 game.

Can I transfer my old Diablo 2 character into Reign of the Warlock?

If you have an existing Expansion character, the transfer window has a firm deadline. In an October 5, 2026 notice, Blizzard said that players will no longer be able to transfer existing Expansion characters into Reign of the Warlock starting November 16, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, that cutoff is upcoming. Blizzard advises eligible players to transfer before then.

Blizzard says the change is intended to prevent items gained through automated farming from entering the new era and to protect a fair experience. If you want to bring an old Expansion character forward, do not assume the option will remain after November 16; consult Blizzard’s notice for the transfer details.

Which return path fits you?

Your situation What to consider
You already own Diablo II: Resurrected Buy Reign of the Warlock separately if you want the class and expansion features.
You do not own the remaster Look for the Infernal Edition bundle, which includes the base game and DLC. Confirm regional storefront availability.
You only want to play the base game The DLC is not required for the remaster’s base game. Xbox Game Pass availability of the base game does not include the Warlock expansion.
You want to use an existing Expansion character Complete the transfer before November 16, 2026, under Blizzard’s announced cutoff.
You want a fresh class and more endgame systems The expansion’s Warlock approaches, Terror Zone updates, Colossal Ancients encounter, item tracking, loot filter, and storage additions are the relevant draws.

Blizzard’s feature and store pages establish the included content and purchase paths; they do not establish independent judgments about the expansion’s value, class balance, or player satisfaction.
