The Switch version earned strong reviews in 2018 for its fluid action, portability and performance, though reviewers noted a less clear handheld image, awkward menus and a repetitive gameplay loop. Those reviews are historical assessments, not current hardware tests.
What does Diablo III: Eternal Collection include?
The collection bundles the base game with the Reaper of Souls expansion set and the Rise of the Necromancer pack. Blizzard’s 2018 announcement described the Switch release as including those additions and the features and updates available at that time. PlayStation’s product page lists the included content, and Blizzard’s Switch announcement describes the bundle.

The Switch listing also names Nintendo-themed cosmetic items: the Cucco companion pet, Triforce portrait frame, Ganondorf-inspired transmogrification set and cosmetic wings. Nintendo lists a Game Card edition. Check Nintendo’s listing for the edition details available in your region.
How did the Switch version review?
Strengths: portable action and co-op
GameSpot reviewer Mike Mahardy gave the Switch edition 9/10 (“Superb”) in a review published November 1, 2018. He praised its portability, fluid controls, stable performance and co-op. His conclusion was: “More than anything, Diablo 3: Eternal Collection proves just how well Blizzard’s action-RPG has aged.” Read the GameSpot review.

Trade-offs: handheld image, menus and repetition
Mahardy described the handheld image as cloudy and the radial menus as imprecise, and cautioned against relying on a single Joy-Con as a controller. Nintendo Life’s Alex Olney reviewed the European Switch version on October 30, 2018, calling it a “lovely port” while noting that the highly repetitive gameplay may not suit everyone; he described the visuals as functional and performance as strong. Is Diablo 3 good in handheld mode, and can you play couch co-op?
Portability is the Switch version’s clearest advantage: you can play in handheld mode or on a TV, and Nintendo lists local play for up to four players. One system supports shared-screen play; local play can also span up to four Switch systems. Nintendo says every player needs a compatible controller, so a multiplayer setup may require additional controllers. Nintendo’s product listing gives the play-mode and controller details.

The 2018 reviews suggest a practical trade-off: the action remained fluid and performance was praised, but handheld visuals were less clear than the reviewer wanted and menu navigation could feel imprecise. If you expect to manage inventory often or prefer a crisp image, try the TV mode when possible and consider which controller feels comfortable before committing.
Which version should you buy?
Choose based on where and with whom you expect to play rather than assuming the versions perform identically. The cited official pages establish platform features, not technical parity between Switch, PS4 and other editions.

Nintendo’s listing says online play on Switch requires Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account. The PlayStation listing says PS4 supports one to four players, online play is optional, and PS Plus is required to play online. Availability and pricing can vary by region and change over time, so check the relevant store or retailer before buying.

The ESRB rates the PS4 and Xbox One versions M for Mature 17+ for Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity and Violence. Its summary describes an overhead action RPG with heroes fighting demons and other enemies, frequent blood effects and a topless succubus depiction.
