What happens after the Diablo IV campaign?
Blizzard describes the game as a mix of campaigns, dungeons, and endgame challenges. After the campaign, players can pursue higher World Tiers and endgame activities for greater challenge; Blizzard also says campaign completers can jump directly into seasonal endgame content. The game’s official framing is: “Once the campaign ends, your journey is just beginning.” (Blizzard’s Diablo IV overview)

There is no single required endgame route. Choose based on whether you want your character’s progress to persist, whether you prefer solo or cooperative play, and which activity structure sounds enjoyable.
Choose between Seasonal and Eternal Realms
The main decision is whether to start fresh for seasonal content or keep building a persistent character. Blizzard says both realms share core campaigns, classes, dungeons, and endgame challenges.

What is available in the current season?
As of October 8, 2026, Blizzard’s live season page is titled Season of Death Awakening. Its featured activities include hunting Ruptures and Risen Monsters, fighting redesigned Realmwalkers, and entering the Deathtoll Chamber after defeating Realmwalkers. Blizzard says the season’s featured encounters offer a chance at Mythic Unique rewards; that is not a guarantee or a stated drop rate. (Blizzard’s season page)

These are season-specific activities, so check the live page for the season currently available when you play. They are not an evergreen checklist for every Diablo IV season.
Which expansion endgame activities should you consider?
Expansion features depend on which content you own. Blizzard’s pages describe distinct activity styles rather than a ranked list of the most difficult or most efficient ways to progress.

War Plans: choose activities and add modifiers
Lord of Hatred introduces War Plans, which let players assemble endgame progression by selecting activities and applying modifiers for rewards. This structure suits players who want to shape a route instead of simply repeating one fixed activity. Echoing Hatred: take on demon hordes
Also presented on the Lord of Hatred page, Echoing Hatred tests builds against endless demon hordes. Choose it if you want a direct combat challenge centered on surviving waves; the official description does not provide a comparative difficulty ranking or farming-efficiency claim.

Dark Citadel: cooperative PvE
Blizzard describes the Dark Citadel, introduced with Vessel of Hatred, as a cooperative PvE endgame activity requiring a party. It is the clearest choice among these options for players seeking group play, and not the option to pick if you need an explicitly solo activity. The expansion page also lists Mercenaries, new dungeons, and Strongholds. (Blizzard’s Vessel of Hatred page)
Fishing: a lower-combat activity
The Lord of Hatred page also presents fishing as a lower-combat alternative. It offers a different pace from horde survival or combat-focused endgame routes.

- Want your progress to persist? Continue in the Eternal Realm; choose Seasonal for a fresh start and that season’s evolving content.
- Want to shape your route? Consider War Plans, which let you select activities and apply modifiers.
- Want a combat survival test? Echoing Hatred is described as a test against endless demon hordes.
- Want cooperative PvE? The Dark Citadel requires a party.
- Want something less combat-focused? Fishing is presented as a lower-combat activity.
- Chasing a stated reward opportunity? Blizzard says the current season’s featured encounters offer a chance at Mythic Unique rewards, not a guaranteed drop.
Check the relevant live Blizzard page and your game or expansion access before committing to an activity. Seasonal features and expansion content are separate from the shared core endgame systems.
