Ed Boon hoped Arnold Schwarzenegger might voice Conan in Mortal Kombat 1, but his August 2024 comment was not a casting announcement. Later coverage still described the voice as unconfirmed, and a subsequent IMDb cast listing names Chris Cox as Conan’s voice.
What Ed Boon said about Schwarzenegger voicing Conan
At San Diego Comic-Con in August 2024, NetherRealm announced Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns and its planned guest fighters, including Conan the Barbarian. Asked by ComicBook whether Schwarzenegger might voice Conan, series creator Ed Boon answered: “I don’t know yet. We couldn’t get him to do Terminator. That was always a challenge….fingers crossed.”

The wording expressed hope, not confirmation: Boon said he did not know whether Schwarzenegger would record the part and pointed to the difficulty of getting him to voice the Terminator in an earlier game. ComicBook’s August 1, 2024 report also said Robert Patrick was confirmed for the T-1000 and Roger L. Jackson for Ghostface.

December 2024 teaser coverage associated Conan’s appearance with Schwarzenegger’s likeness, but did not confirm that the actor supplied the voice. Reports published December 10 said the voice actor was still unconfirmed. ComicBook’s teaser report and Shacknews’ release-date report both gave January 21, 2025 as the announced early-access date for Conan. That was the planned timing reported in December 2024, not an upcoming release date.

What the later cast listing says
A later IMDb cast listing for Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition names Chris Cox as Conan’s voice. This is secondary cast-database information, rather than an official studio credit in the sources cited here, so it should be treated as a reported listing rather than definitive confirmation.
The available reporting therefore supports a clear distinction: Boon hoped Schwarzenegger might take the role, Conan’s look was associated with the actor, and the later IMDb listing credits Cox. Boon’s “fingers crossed” remark alone did not mean Schwarzenegger was cast.
