Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on March 20, 2025. Before release, an Insider Gaming report published February 18, 2025, said Ubisoft developers were confident the game would meet that date. That was source-based reporting—not an official Ubisoft guarantee—and the launch date was later confirmed by Ubisoft.
What did the February 18 report say?
Tom Henderson’s Insider Gaming report said sources and developers he spoke with felt confident Assassin’s Creed Shadows would be ready for its March 20, 2025 release. One unnamed source described the game as “pretty much done.” That phrase reflected the source’s view, not an official Ubisoft statement. The report also acknowledged that another delay could not be ruled out.
The report was a snapshot of confidence before launch. It should not be read as a formal promise from Ubisoft or as a current release forecast.
How did the release date change?

In its January 9 announcement, Ubisoft said the extra time was intended to better incorporate feedback and help the team “fully deliver on the potential of the game.” The company had first set February 14 as the date; March 20 was the revised schedule, not a further delay beyond that announced date.

What did the preorder and sales figures mean?
Insider Gaming’s report gave several figures, all attributed to sources or described as a projection. They are not official, audited Ubisoft sales statistics, and they measure different things.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot separately told investors that preorders were “tracking solidly, in line with those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the second most successful entry of the franchise,” as quoted by Insider Gaming. That was a qualitative company statement; it does not verify the report’s specific preorder estimate or projected first-month unit sales.
