What is confirmed about the Xbox release?
Game Science’s official FAQ said PC and PS5 players could play the full game beginning August 20, 2024, while the Xbox Series X|S version would come later. The developer’s stated explanation was: “We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards.” It apologized for the delay and said it would announce an Xbox date once the version met those standards. The wait is over: Xbox’s official store listing gives August 20, 2025 as the Xbox Series X|S release date. The discrepancy between that date and the 2024 PC and PS5 launch is what prompted questions about the reason for the delay.

Where did the exclusivity claim come from?
On August 29, 2024, Forbes Senior Contributor Paul Tassi reported that an unnamed source with specific knowledge of the situation attributed the delay to an exclusivity deal rather than a technical issue. Tassi acknowledged that this claim conflicted with Game Science’s public explanation and said he did not know the agreement’s duration. The report did not identify the source or publish a contract. That is a reported allegation, not a confirmed deal. The available statements do not establish whether an agreement existed, who its parties were, or what its terms might have been.

What did Microsoft say?
On June 21, 2024, Microsoft told Windows Central: “We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders.” The spokesperson also said Microsoft was working with Game Science to bring the game to Xbox. Windows Central’s report
Microsoft’s wording was not confirmation that a Sony deal existed. It left the question open, just as Game Science’s public statement gave its own stated reason without resolving the anonymous-source claim.
