Sora joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate through paid downloadable content, not through his amiibo. The Sora amiibo is a separate compatible figure, while Nintendo also added support for the Metroid Dread Samus and E.M.M.I. figures. Nintendo lists the game for the Switch OLED Model, but its documentation does not identify OLED-specific gameplay or visual enhancements.
How to get Sora in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
To play as Sora, you need the base game and Challenger Pack 11. Nintendo says the pack includes Sora as a playable fighter, his stage, and a selection of music from Kingdom Hearts. The Nintendo Support DLC listing identifies what the pack contains; Nintendo’s game purchase page lists the retail edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Get the base game. You cannot use the DLC fighter without Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Get Challenger Pack 11. This is the route Nintendo lists for adding Sora, his stage, and the music selection.
The Sora amiibo does not replace Challenger Pack 11 or unlock the fighter by itself.
What the Sora amiibo does
The Sora amiibo is a physical figure, separate from the downloadable content. Nintendo lists Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a compatible game and describes bringing the figure into a compatible game as a fighter that grows and evolves. Exact amiibo functions depend on the game. Nintendo gives the figure’s release date as 16 February 2024 on its Sora amiibo product page.

Do the Metroid Dread amiibo work in Smash Ultimate?
Yes. Nintendo’s update history says Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 13.0.1 added support for the Samus (Metroid Dread) and E.M.M.I. amiibo. Nintendo says Samus can be used as a Figure Player, and tapping the figures at the game’s amiibo area can provide spirits. See Nintendo’s update history for the support details.
