Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 set a record for Game Pass subscriber additions on a launch day, Microsoft said—but it did not disclose how many people signed up. The available figures therefore do not confirm that the game brought in millions of subscribers, or show how many launch-day sign-ups stayed subscribed because of it.
Was Black Ops 6 on Game Pass at launch?
Yes. Xbox announced on May 28, 2024, that Black Ops 6 would be available on day one through select Game Pass plans. The game launched on October 25, 2024. The offer applied to eligible plans; it did not mean every Game Pass tier included the game at launch. Xbox’s day-one announcement and its October 2024 Game Pass listing document the offer and release date.
What did Microsoft say about subscriber additions?
On Microsoft’s FY2025 first-quarter earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella said: “Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players, as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day.” That is a claim about a record compared with previous launch days—not a disclosed sign-up count. Microsoft’s FY2025 Q1 earnings materials do not provide an absolute number of Game Pass additions attributable to the game.
Does the record mean millions subscribed?
No such conclusion follows from the record statement alone. Microsoft did not publish a figure in the cited remarks, so the total could not be verified as millions from those sources. Nor does a launch-day addition count establish net subscriber growth, the number of people who remained subscribed, or how much subscription revenue the game generated. Those are different measures.

Microsoft said players who play through Game Pass generate subscription revenue over time. That describes a revenue mechanism, not a measured Black Ops 6 retention rate or revenue total. A person who joins on launch day may later cancel, and other sign-ups or cancellations can affect the service’s overall subscriber count.
What later results do—and do not—show
In its FY2025 second-quarter reporting, Microsoft described Black Ops 6 as the top-selling game on Xbox and PlayStation that quarter and said it had more launch-quarter players than any other paid release in Call of Duty history. Microsoft also reported a quarterly Game Pass revenue record and PC subscriber-base growth above 30%. Those are noteworthy results, but the company did not isolate how many subscribers Black Ops 6 caused. The service-wide figures cannot be assigned to this one game. Microsoft’s FY2025 Q2 earnings materials provide that broader context.

Can you play Black Ops 6 on Game Pass now?
As of Xbox’s September 15, 2026 library update, Black Ops 6 was listed for Game Pass Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass, on Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC. Catalog membership and plan access can change, so check the Xbox library update or the live catalog for current availability.
In April 2026, Xbox said future Call of Duty games would not arrive on Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch and were expected to be added around the following holiday season. The policy update also said Call of Duty games already in the library would remain available. That later policy does not change the fact that Black Ops 6 had a day-one offer in 2024. Xbox made the announcement on a Spanish-language regional Xbox Wire page; its terms should not be read as a statement about regional prices.

Game Pass or a separate purchase?
The right route depends on how you plan to play. Game Pass provides access while you have an eligible subscription and while the title remains in the catalog. Buying the game is a separate option, with editions and availability that depend on platform. Before choosing, consider:
