Costco’s reported decision was narrower than the headline suggests. In September 2025, searches of Costco’s US and UK websites returned no Xbox products, and a news report relayed a commentator’s account that Costco said it had no plans to carry an Xbox console going forward. That does not confirm that every US warehouse removed every Xbox console or accessory. Nor does the available reporting establish that Xbox price increases caused the decision.
Did Costco stop selling Xbox consoles?
There is evidence that Xbox products disappeared from Costco’s US online search results in September 2025, but that is not proof of a complete removal from every US store. Windows Central reported on September 24, 2025 that searches on Costco’s US and UK online storefronts returned no Xbox results. The report said local warehouse availability was not checked; Costco Canada still listed Xbox products at the time.
In a September 25 follow-up, Windows Central relayed commentator Destin Legarie’s account of a phone call with Costco. Legarie said the response was: “We don’t have any plans going forward to carry an Xbox console.” The report characterized it as a business decision, but did not provide a detailed explanation or link to a Costco press release. That account is second-hand reporting, not a direct public statement from Costco.
The reported statement concerns carrying an Xbox console; it does not establish that every Xbox game, gift card, or accessory was removed. Costco’s online and warehouse assortments can differ, so the website results alone cannot settle what a particular location carries.

Did Xbox prices rise to $600?
The roughly $600 price in the headline corresponds to a specific Xbox Series X model, not every Xbox console. Microsoft’s US price table dated October 3, 2025 listed the Series X Digital at $599.99 and the standard Series X at $649.99. It listed the Series S 512 GB at $399.99, the Series S 1 TB at $449.99, and the Series X 2 TB Galaxy Black Special Edition at $799.99. Those are historical US prices from October 3, 2025, not verified current prices.
Microsoft announced another US price change on June 25, 2026, effective August 1, 2026: increases of $100 for 512 GB models and $150 for 1 TB models, and the end of the 2 TB model. The announcement did not provide exact new US prices by SKU, so those increases should not be used to infer a current price for a particular console. Microsoft attributed the change to component-cost pressure, including storage and memory costs. It said console storage and memory prices had risen by more than 2.5 times and expected them to double again by fall 2027; both figures are Microsoft’s statements, and the latter is a forecast rather than an established outcome. See Xbox Wire’s June 25, 2026 announcement for its explanation and details.

Did higher prices make Costco drop Xbox?
The timing does not establish a cause. Windows Central’s September 24, 2025 report said the reason was unknown; its September 25 follow-up described the decision as a business decision but did not give a specific explanation. Microsoft’s later price announcements explain its own pricing changes, not Costco’s reported retail decision.
Can you still find an Xbox at your local Costco?
Possibly, but a web search or a single product page cannot confirm stock across Costco locations. Costco’s comparison page lists an Xbox Series X 1TB console with an additional controller, item 1483699, and shows a $562.99 snapshot price with the listing marked “Out of stock.” That is one dynamic listing, not evidence of present availability throughout the US. Check the listing directly for its current status.

Costco explains that online products are not necessarily sold at local warehouses and that online and warehouse prices may differ, including because of warehouse-only promotions and shipping costs. Its product comparison page identifies the bundle and notes that local availability and prices may vary. For a location-specific answer:
- Set your preferred warehouse on Costco’s website or app, then check the item page if inventory information is available for that product.
- Contact the warehouse if the online listing does not show local inventory or you need confirmation before visiting. Costco’s local-availability guidance recommends checking with the selected location or contacting the warehouse.
What are the alternatives if Costco has none?
Microsoft’s June 2026 announcement described certified refurbished consoles through Microsoft Stores and previously played consoles through retail partners. It also mentioned financing options through partners. The announcement said certified refurbished consoles could be up to $100 off MSRP; that is a stated maximum discount, not a guaranteed price or an assurance of current stock. Check the relevant Microsoft Store or retailer for the offer, model, condition, and availability before buying.

When comparing an Xbox Series X, Series S, or a refurbished console, first verify the current price and stock for the exact model. Then check whether you need a disc drive, how much storage you want, what controllers or other items the bundle includes, and whether the games and subscriptions you use are available on that system. The October 2025 prices above are historical, and the cited 2026 update does not establish exact current SKU prices.
