Who are the companions in Divinity: Original Sin 2?
The six recruitable Origin characters have distinct backgrounds and starting-role descriptions. Those descriptions are useful for orientation, not fixed class assignments: the characters are not mechanically locked to the roles listed below.

The meeting points and role labels come from Moniker85’s GameFAQs companion guide, version 0.40, updated November 2, 2017. Treat the locations as practical guide references; they are not a substitute for following the characters’ scenes and quest interactions.
Where can you find each companion?
The guide places all six around the early Fort Joy area. Use these locations as starting pointers:

- The Red Prince: Look by the shore where your character washes ashore.
- Ifan ben-Mezd: Check near the entrance to Fort Joy.
- Lohse: Look near Ifan and the waypoint.
- Sebille: Find her at the Fort Joy kitchen, following Stingtail.
- Fane: Search near the secret alcove tied to “The Teleporter” quest.
- Beast: Look around the crocodile area.
How many companions can join your party?
The GameFAQs guide describes an active group of your player character plus up to three companions. It also says companions gain levels alongside the player while not active, so you can rotate who travels with you rather than keeping every recruit in the active party.
How should you choose your party?
There is no universally strongest companion choice established by the available character guide. Make the decision around what you want from a playthrough:

- Character stories: Bring characters whose personal histories and quests you want to experience firsthand.
- Combat roles: Use the listed starting aptitudes as a rough indication of their original roles, not as a promise of an unchangeable build.
- Availability: The guide warns that choices and story progression can remove companions from reach, so consider recruiting the characters you want before advancing far.
Can companions leave or become unavailable?
Yes. The GameFAQs guide warns that companions may leave permanently if you attack them outside combat or act against their personal quests. It also notes that a mandatory story event can make companions who are not in your active team unavailable. If a particular character’s story matters to you, keep them in the party when you approach major story transitions and avoid hostile or quest-conflicting choices toward them.

Choosing an Origin character lets you begin as one of the six named protagonists; choosing a custom character does not prevent you from recruiting those Origin stories later. Larian’s release fact sheet also describes unchosen Origin characters as recruitable party members. Pick an Origin character if you want to start directly within a named character’s story, or create your own protagonist if you prefer that perspective while meeting the others along the way.
