Yes in the 2026 FNCS Major 1 Summit competition: Epic’s official rules prohibit using macro keys or similar methods to automate in-game actions. That competition rule does not establish that every macro feature is banned in every Fortnite mode. For third-party software more generally, Epic Support says it cannot determine or disclose whether a specific program can lead to a ban.
What the Fortnite macro rule says
Epic’s 2026 FNCS Major 1 Summit Official Rules list “Using macro keys or similar methods to automate in-game actions” as an example of unfair play (§8.2.1). The same rules prohibit input-manipulation devices and tools that access real-time game state to gain a competitive advantage.

This is an explicit rule for that named competitive event. It is not, by itself, a published blanket ruling on every macro or remapping feature in public matchmaking, every peripheral utility, or every Fortnite context.
Does that mean any macro can get you banned?
Epic Support does not give a universal yes-or-no answer for third-party software. Its third-party software guidance says Epic Games Support cannot determine or disclose whether using a specific third-party program can lead to a Fortnite ban. Epic and Fortnite do not officially support such software, and players use it at their own risk.

That leaves an important distinction: a straightforward button remap is not the same thing as a macro that automates a sequence or action in-game. But Epic has not published a comprehensive compatibility list for every remap, macro feature, or peripheral utility, so the distinction does not guarantee that a particular setup is permitted or safe from enforcement.
How to assess a device or feature
- What does it do? A normal input remap changes which control sends an input; automation performs in-game actions without each action being separately entered by the player. The FNCS rules explicitly prohibit the latter in that competition.
- Does the hardware alter input or behavior? Epic lists Cronus Zen, Cronus Max, and similar devices that modify input or behavior as restricted. Its restricted-hardware guidance tells players to remove a restricted device and restart Fortnite.
- Which rules apply? Public matchmaking and a named tournament may have different applicable rules. Check the event rules if competing; the FNCS rule is specific to the 2026 Major 1 Summit.
- Is the answer confirmed by Epic? Do not treat a device working, being undetected, or being described as a remap as proof that Epic permits it. Epic declines to assess specific third-party programs.
What happens if a device is blocked or a player is sanctioned?
Epic warns that attempting to bypass a restricted-hardware restriction may result in a permanent Fortnite ban. Remove the device rather than trying to evade the block.

In its February 27, 2025 anti-cheat update, Epic said a first cheating offense receives a one-year matchmaking ban and a second offense results in a lifetime ban. It also said tournament participants who used cheats face an immediate lifetime tournament ban and may lose past tournament winnings. These are policy consequences described in that update, not a prediction of what will happen in an individual case.
Epic’s sanctions and appeals guidance says penalties may be temporary or permanent depending on severity and prior sanctions. The appeal process includes review by a human moderator, whose decision may uphold, lift, or modify the sanction.

Accessibility devices are a separate issue
Epic’s restricted-hardware guidance identifies the Xbox Accessibility Controller and its accessories as approved accessibility devices, and points players to Fortnite’s in-game accessibility settings. That approval is not a general exemption for macros or devices that modify input to gain an advantage.
