No. Super Mario Bros. came out before Kirby’s debut game: Nintendo dates it to September 13, 1985, while Kirby’s Dream Land arrived for Game Boy in 1992. If you mean Mario’s earliest game appearance rather than the Super Mario Bros. series, Mario goes back further, to Donkey Kong in 1981.
Which came first: Kirby or Super Mario Bros.?
The original Super Mario Bros. came first. Nintendo lists its release date as September 13, 1985, for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Japanese Mario Portal also gives September 13, 1985, as the Japan release date. Nintendo’s Super Mario history and its Japanese release history provide those dates.
Kirby’s first game was Kirby’s Dream Land, released for Game Boy in 1992. Nintendo’s Kirby history identifies the game and says Kirby has appeared in games since 1992. That makes the original Super Mario Bros. earlier by several years.
What if “Mario” means the character’s game history?
Mario’s history predates the Super Mario Bros. series. Nintendo of America’s corporate timeline says distribution of Donkey Kong began in 1981, before Mario was introduced in Super Mario Bros. in 1985. The same timeline places Kirby’s debut in Kirby’s Dream Land in 1992. See Nintendo’s corporate history.
