Epic renamed it with the Storm Chasers update on December 10, 2024; Brick Life is a separate social roleplay experience, not a replacement for Odyssey.
What changed when LEGO Fortnite became Odyssey?
Epic introduced LEGO Fortnite on December 7, 2023, as a survival-crafting adventure built around gathering resources, crafting, building villages, and facing enemies and environmental hazards. On December 9, 2024, Epic and the LEGO Group announced that this original game would be renamed LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, with the change arriving December 10 alongside the Storm Chasers update. LEGO described Odyssey as the new name for the original survival-crafting game. Epic’s Storm Chasers announcement and LEGO’s LEGO Fortnite announcement establish the distinction.
At the same time, “LEGO Fortnite” became a broader Fortnite Discover category for Odyssey, LEGO Group-made islands, creator-made LEGO islands, and Brick Life. That was an expansion of the category, not a deletion of the survival game.
| Experience | What it is |
|---|---|
| LEGO Fortnite Odyssey | The original survival-crafting game, renamed in December 2024. |
| LEGO Fortnite Brick Life | A separate social roleplay experience set in a city, launched December 12, 2024. LEGO described activities including exploring, taking jobs, and decorating a home. |
Why did the name change cause confusion?
Before the rename, “LEGO Fortnite” referred to the survival game. Afterward, Epic also used the phrase for a Discover category containing several LEGO-themed Fortnite experiences. Searching for LEGO Fortnite could therefore lead to different tiles, even though Odyssey remained the name of the survival-crafting game.

For a first session, Epic’s getting-started guidance recommends creating and saving a world, then tackling early survival tasks such as making a campfire and shelter. The basic loop is to explore, gather resources from trees, rocks, and sometimes enemies, craft tools and structures, find food, and discover recipes, enemies, and locations. Epic says the world saves when you exit. Its beginner’s guide explains these starting steps.
What the December 2024 update added
The Storm Chasers update brought a new quest line centered on Storm Chaser Village and the Storm King, along with storm dungeons, enemies, craftable weapons and tools, and changes to crafting and progression. Epic said those dungeons would return after 24 hours with different paths and puzzles. It also introduced component-based crafting, material power tiers, and a Legendary Forge for upgrading Tier 4 items with Rift Crystals.

Yes. Epic’s news archive includes later Odyssey announcements. In October 2025, Epic said it would merge LEGO Fortnite Expeditions with Odyssey and bring Hero Classes to Odyssey. In December 2025, it announced NINJAGO: Rise of the Ninja and said the story would continue in a second update in 2026. These announcements show ongoing development after the rename, but they do not confirm every feature in the current live build. Check Epic’s news archive for the latest published updates.
