Did Marvel Rivals’ Newest Update Remove Mod Support? What Players Need to Know

Marvel Rivals players reported mods failing to load and warnings after an update, but official patch notes do not announce mod support removal. Tournament restrictions have a narrower scope.

No official patch notes reviewed announce that Marvel Rivals removed mod support. Players have reported that some client-side cosmetic mods stopped loading after an update, and some users have reported in-game warnings. Those reports do not establish that every mod is banned, why the mods stopped working, or what the warning means.

What the official patch notes establish

The September 3, 2026 patch notes and the notes for the October 1 update list store content and fixes but do not mention mods or removal of mod support. The Season 10.5 notes, published October 6, scheduled an update for October 9, 2026, at 09:00 UTC; those notes also do not mention mods. At the time those notes were reviewed, the October 9 update had not yet begun.

That silence does not rule out an undocumented anti-cheat or file-format change. It does mean the cited notes do not support describing mod support as officially removed.

What players have reported—and what remains uncertain

In a Reddit discussion, the original poster edited an initial warning about a blanket ban. The edited post said an update broke a UTOC bypass used by many client-side cosmetic mods, leaving most mods unable to load. It also suggested that bans were associated with cheat or configuration bypasses used to force mods to load. This is an anecdotal explanation, not a developer-confirmed cause or policy.

A separate r/nexusmods thread records users reporting an in-game warning after an update. The original poster later said disabling “Characters LODs Disabler” appeared to help, while replies differed on which tools caused warnings. These posts show that some users experienced warnings; they do not provide a verified list of safe or unsafe mods.

  • A mod failing to load is a compatibility symptom, not by itself proof that its use is prohibited.
  • A warning appearing is a user-reported event, not enough to establish the enforcement rule or the specific trigger.
  • A cosmetic change is not the same as a configuration or modification that changes gameplay.

What the tournament rules prohibit

The Marvel Rivals Ignite 2026 Stage 1 rulebook says: “The use of any unauthorized config, ini, mod, or macro will be ruled as a violation by the official.” Its examples include unauthorized configuration files that alter in-game behavior; client-side mods that provide a competitive advantage, including changes affecting recoil, camera shake, UI overlays, or other gameplay elements; macros; and input-manipulation software or hardware.

This is a rule for official tournament competition. It does not, on its own, establish a blanket ban on cosmetic mods in ordinary public matches. The rulebook allows tournament sanctions such as match loss, suspension, or permanent ban depending on the seriousness and repetition of a violation; those consequences apply to participants governed by those tournament rules, not as a stated general-play penalty policy.

How to interpret the “all modding is bannable” concern

The available evidence supports a narrower conclusion: some players say that mods stopped loading or that they saw warnings, while the reviewed patch notes do not announce a removal of mod support. A community post attributes failures to a broken UTOC bypass, but that cause has not been confirmed by the official notes. The tournament rulebook clearly restricts unauthorized mods and configurations in its competition, particularly those that provide a competitive advantage; it does not settle the policy for every cosmetic mod in ordinary play.

No authoritative, current mod-by-mod compatibility list is established by these sources. If you are deciding whether to use a particular mod, do not treat a Reddit report—or the absence of a note in patch notes—as confirmation that it is safe or permitted. For tournament participation, follow the tournament rulebook; for ordinary play, these sources do not establish a complete current mod policy.
