They document a different change: PAC-MAN 99 distribution and its main-game online services ended in 2023. Meanwhile, Nintendo listed F-ZERO 99 as a Switch Online member game and recorded an update for it in August 2026. Those facts do not identify the game—or prove the catalog-removal claim—in the headline.
What game did Nintendo Switch Online remove?
The official notices available here do not establish that Nintendo removed a game from the Nintendo Switch Online classic-game catalog, nor do they identify a first-ever catalog removal. A claim like that needs a specific title, notice, effective date, and region; without them, it cannot be confirmed.

The apparent uncertainty may stem from treating different kinds of service changes as the same thing. Nintendo’s notice for PAC-MAN 99 describes the end of distribution and online services for that game—not its removal from a classic-game catalog.

Nintendo Support states that PAC-MAN 99 for Nintendo Switch was discontinued on October 8, 2023. The notice says distribution of the main game and free themes, as well as online services for the main game, ended on that date. Nintendo’s PAC-MAN 99 End of Service Announcement describes those changes.

The notice also distinguishes online-service closure from all play ending: owners of either paid DLC could continue to play CPU Battle, Blind Time Attack, and Score Attack offline. That exception applies to those specified modes and qualifying DLC owners; it does not mean the main game’s online services continued.
Does F-ZERO 99 show that the classic-game catalog is unchanged?
No. It shows a different category of Nintendo Switch Online game, not the state of the classic-game catalog. Nintendo’s Canadian product page lists F-ZERO 99 as a Nintendo Switch game available only to active Nintendo Switch Online members. Separately, Nintendo Support lists version 1.7.2 as released on August 12, 2026, and says membership is required for the game’s online features. These records indicate that Nintendo was supporting F-ZERO 99 at that date; they do not establish whether any classic-game catalog title was removed.

Nintendo’s October 30, 2023 news post discusses additions to the Game Boy and NES collections separately from F-ZERO 99, underscoring that a member-only game with online play is not automatically part of the retro-game catalog.

What does “removed” mean for a game service?
A game may stop being available in one way while remaining playable in another. To assess a removal claim, separate the type of access affected:

- Online play: whether network features or servers remain available.
- Offline play: whether existing owners can still play without those online features.
Nintendo’s PAC-MAN 99 notice specifies an end to distribution and main-game online services, while naming offline modes that remained available to certain DLC owners. It does not say that a classic-game catalog listing was removed. The available official records do not supply the title, date, region, prior-owner access, or other terms for the headline’s alleged catalog event.
