Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem before Capcom’s public reveal. On December 9, 2025, contemporaneous reports said the updated PS5 artwork showed Leon behind protagonist Grace Ashcroft; the image was later removed. The image indicated Leon was part of the game’s presentation, but it did not establish whether he was playable or what role he would have.
How did the PlayStation Store leak Leon?
GameSpot reported on December 9, 2025 that standard-edition PS5 purchasers saw updated pre-download artwork depicting Leon behind Grace Ashcroft. VGC likewise reported that the image appeared for PS5 pre-order customers. Both accounts described the artwork as being taken down afterward. GameSpot’s report and VGC’s coverage are contemporaneous reporting; the inspected sources do not include a current Sony incident report or a live copy of the Store asset.

That is why coverage called it an accidental leak: Store content appeared to disclose a character before the public reveal. The available reporting does not establish Sony’s intent or explain how the artwork was published. It is more precise to say the artwork appeared to reveal Leon early than to claim Sony deliberately announced him.
Did the artwork prove Leon was playable?
No. The image placed Leon in the game’s artwork, but artwork alone cannot determine whether a character is playable, appears only in selected sections, or serves as supporting cast. VGC explicitly noted that the Store image did not settle Leon’s role. At the time of the leak, the safest conclusion was simply that Leon was associated with Requiem.

- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Was there an earlier Resident Evil Requiem Store leak?
Reports also surfaced on October 30, 2025 about a Portuguese PlayStation Store Deluxe Edition listing that reportedly mentioned a Leon costume. That was a separate reported incident from the December PS5 pre-download artwork: one concerned wording in a regional edition listing, the other an image shown to PS5 customers. The original Portuguese listing was not independently verified in the inspected material, so its wording should be treated as reported rather than as a confirmed first-party artifact. The costume claim should not be folded into the December artwork story.
What did Capcom say about Leon rumors?
In an interview reported by PlayStation Universe on November 17, 2025, producer Masato Kumazawa cautioned players against treating unofficial claims as confirmed. He said information beyond Capcom’s official releases was “more detective work” and that the company could not confirm it unless officially released. He was discussing unverified claims circulating at the time, including a purported eyepatch image and rumors of a Leon DLC or new costume; he did not deny that Leon would appear in the game. PlayStation Universe’s interview report attributes those remarks to Kumazawa.

When was Leon officially confirmed?
Sony’s PlayStation Blog spotlighted Leon in Resident Evil Requiem on April 17, 2026, making his presence part of official PlayStation marketing. The PlayStation Blog post confirms the character’s presence, though the earlier December artwork itself still should not be treated as proof of a specific gameplay role.

Capcom announced Resident Evil Requiem on June 9, 2025 as the ninth main installment in the series and described it as a survival-horror game. Its announcement listed February 27, 2026 as the release date for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Capcom subsequently announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version for the same launch date on September 16, 2025. Those dates are historical: the game has since released. Capcom’s announcement also said the franchise had sold more than 170 million game units cumulatively worldwide as of March 31, 2025; that is a franchise-wide figure, not sales for Requiem.
