What is the LEGO Dungeons & Dragons set?
Set 21348, Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale, is LEGO Ideas’ first D&D set, announced on March 19, 2024, during the game’s 50th-anniversary year. LEGO describes it as an adult-oriented build that can serve as a display scene as well as a setting for play. The model measures approximately 48 cm (19 in.) high, 37 cm (about 15 in.) wide and 30 cm (12 in.) deep, according to LEGO’s product page.
The set grew out of a LEGO Ideas fan challenge created jointly by Wizards of the Coast and LEGO. D&D Beyond reported in 2024 that the challenge drew more than 600 submissions. The winning design was submitted by Lucas Bolt, known as BoltBuilds, who worked with LEGO designers on the final model. D&D Beyond’s account of the winning design describes that collaboration.

The tavern, dungeon and tower
The central build combines a tavern with a removable roof and accessible upper level, a dungeon and a tower. Cinderhowl, the posable red dragon, is designed to coil around the tower. The model also includes traps and details intended to echo a fantasy adventure, rather than presenting only a static castle-like facade.

Minifigures and monsters
LEGO lists six minifigures: four adventurers, an innkeeper and the dragonborn Alax Jadescales. The adventuring party consists of an orc rogue, gnome fighter, elf wizard and dwarf cleric. Brick-built creatures include a beholder, an owlbear and a displacer beast. LEGO’s set listing provides the official product details.
Does the LEGO set come with a D&D campaign?
A companion fifth-level adventure, also titled Red Dragon’s Tale, was developed with Wizards of the Coast. The story starts in a tavern and sends players to investigate a sorcerer’s scheme. It includes four character sheets based on minifigures, plus optional instructions for incorporating the physical LEGO model into play. D&D Beyond says the adventure can be run with or without D&D rules and describes the PDF adventure and associated digital material as free to claim through a D&D Beyond account. What do reviewers think of the build?
Reviewers have highlighted the variety packed into the model: its interiors, monsters, characters and references to D&D lore. Their reservations are more specific than a simple good-or-bad verdict, centering on value and how well the dragon works as a posable centerpiece.
Detail and setting variety
In its March 23, 2024 review, Brickset called the set a “spectacular celebration of Dungeons & Dragons,” praising the compact mix of settings, detailed interiors, monsters and lore references. Brickset disclosed that LEGO provided its review set.

Brick Fanatics’ review also praised the minifigure selection, Easter eggs, display flexibility and the tavern’s removable, modular construction. It likewise disclosed that LEGO supplied its review set.
Price and dragon poseability
Brickset’s summary called the set “A little too expensive” and the dragon “underwhelming.” Brick Fanatics said the price felt slightly high and criticized the dragon’s neck joint and its ability to attach as depicted. Those are the reviewers’ assessments, not a numerical consensus or a hands-on finding for this article.

Is Red Dragon’s Tale worth the price?
The strongest case for 21348 is its combination of a substantial fantasy scene, recognizable D&D monsters and a companion adventure that connects the build to tabletop play. Its tavern, dungeon and tower give it more setting variety than a single-display centerpiece, while the figures and creatures carry much of its licensed appeal.
The trade-off is value: reviewers considered the price high, and the dragon—the most prominent model feature—drew criticism for its neck joint and poseability. If the character selection, interior details and playable setting are central to your interest, those features may matter more than the dragon’s limitations. If your priority is a particularly convincing or flexible dragon display, reviewer feedback suggests examining that aspect closely before buying.
